One of the all time worst movies

Sure, there are thousands of terrible B-movies with low budgets and mediocre talent, but considering the pedigree of this piece, it has to go down in history as one of the most self-indulgent, ill conceived, laugh out loud embarrassments of all time. The only recent stinker with similar pedigree that was as bad was David O. Russell's Joy, but I didn't get far enough in to really comment. The first 20 minutes, though, were cringe worthy.

You've not seen many movies. I don't think this is one of the greatest, but there are thousands upon thousands of big-budget movies which are much, much, much worse than this.

reply

Name one.

reply

Wild, Wild West.

reply

At least Wild, Wild West is tongue in cheek and enjoyable in a campy way. Gone Girl just takes itself sooo seriously and masquerades as some kind of intelligent psychological thriller, when really it's an overwrought melodrama that fancies itself too much.

~ I'm a 21st century man and I don't wanna be here.

reply

Wild, Wild West didn't know what it was doing. It tried to be too serious, so they added more humor. The humor didn't work. The main characters had zero chemistry and the whole scene with West and Loveless making racist and disabled jokes was unfunny and uncomfortable.

I'm not PC by any means. I'm just saying that if they want us all to pretend that a black man, just after the Civil War had the same amount of respect as white men, even by white men of the north, then they shouldn't go into racial jokes. Because once they did that, you have to wonder how ANY of them treated West with any respect. And, how did they not just shoot him right there?

reply

Gone Girl has its own apologetic. I think it's decently directed. Fincher had a goal, wanted a certain kind of filmic product, and nailed it. It's what I call an urban fairy tale, and is consistently directed as such.

So, to me, it's a matter of whether I find that fairy tale compelling... the same way we still remember--and apply to our lives--the fairy tales of our youth.

But... too little, too late: If Middle America had seen Fincher's Gone Girl earlier, then maybe they wouldn't have voted for Trump, in our time.

Shucks darn.

+justanicknamed You're the one snorting meth in the morning, several hits from the crack pipe to chill later in the day, then with your sixer of cheap beer, a couple packs of Marlboros and a bag of Cheetos, it's movie watching time. After smoking a joint of heroin dusted weed you slouch at your keyboard and type your inanities, worthless opinions in order for all the world to realize what a Mongolian idiot you actually are. Now take a couple of Oxy's and give the rest of us a break from your insanity.

reply

None of which changes the fact that Trump beat Hillary like the dried up cVnt that she is.

Considering Nick was falsely accused of murder, and one of Amy's exes was falsely accused of rape, I'd say Trump would've gotten EVEN MORE support if more Middle American's watched this movie, assuming a movie can sway people's opinion's that easily anyway.

reply

I'd EASILY watch WWW which was crap again over this *beep*

Alien 3, Game, Seven, Fight Club, Panic Room & Zodiac. Love em. Everything after that does nothing for me - although two were good (buttons and social) and two were *beep* (gg and tattoo).

You Suck...now deal with it.

Jupiter Ascending.

Magic Mike

Gods Of Egypt, Independence Day 2, Fifty Shades Of Grey etc etc etc.

Waterworld- it looked cheap.

Why do they give out letter jackets to marching band? It's not a sport! We all know it!

Death Proof

reply

*beep* 'Suicide Squad' - that one did it for me! It's my personal WORST MOVIE EVER. Because it is, in a way, the ultimate result of so many years of dumbing down movies, making them more and more and even more spectacular and 'dark and gritty' etc. What a piece of garbage. Worse than the Hobbit trilogy.

By the way: Haven't seen 'Gone Girl' yet - but looking forward to it - it literally CAN NOT be worse than Suicide Squad! :-D

Shadows and Fog

Suicide Squad was awful, most remakes are awful, The Room is horrible. I haven't seen this, but it can hardly be any worse than some of the *beep* I've seen or heard about.

reply

Alien: Covenant, Terminator: Salvation, The Wolfman, Battle: Las Angeles, The 3 Muskateers(2011), Death Race, The Rob Zombie Halloweens, Death Sentence, Miami Vice, The Resident Evil movies, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection

reply

Hyperbole is tiresome. It's not even close to one of the worst movies of all time, regardless of your disposition towards it. It's a competently directed, acted and edited film, so that automatically puts it above thousands of other worse movies.

It's too bad you didn't like it though, and I guess we'll never know why because you chose to use such broad, undefined and inarguable criticisms as "cringe-worthy" and "bad".

"If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"

reply

If there was a like system for comments her, i'd like this one. Thank you

reply

Im 15 minutes in and this is just excruciating. Woman leaves house with a broken coffee table and a press conference is called? The dialogue is atrocious snd the Hitchcockian flashbacks contrived. Im off.

reply

Quit smoking pot for 15 minutes and you'll understand more. It wasn't simply the broken table.

reply

I totally agree. I'm disappointed because I like Affleck and after reading reviews I was expecting a good movie. The dialogue is horrible!!! I'm 12 minutes in and came here to see if it was just me or if it's really this bad. Yes, it is bad.

reply

And what do you call a "good movie" then?

What are your favorites?

reply

It's definitely one of the worst films I've ever seen.

reply

There is an "all-time worst" discussion thread for virtually every movie on imdb.com - I'm never disappointed. At least I didn't have to look far for it here - it was the very first thread on the GG board today.

reply

Not a fan of satire?

I understand - I know people that hated "Fight Club" - but that doesn't make it self-indulgent, ill-conceived, or an embarrassment. It just means your opinion differs from the majority on this particular film.

reply

It would have played better without Affleck. You need more than wooden acting for good satire.

reply

I made an account on IMDB just for the sole purpose of debating with you on this. You thought this was a bad movie? Were you *beep* high when you watched it?
