I guess the pilot wasn't that great?

damn...is this final? Most of those other shows don't even sound that great.

I'm with you. Those other shows The CW picked up, sound blah to me. I thought The Selection was a sure thing... pretty surprising. Any chance the pilot might leak online? :P I remember the good old days when rejected pilots (like "Global Frequency") leaked. It's always fun to debate the networks' poor decision-making! Maybe The Selection pilot sucked. But the internet majority disagreed when it came to Global Frequency. And many crappy shows do get aired. So I'd like to see The Selection and decide for myself - even if I don't have the power to do anything about it. :P

There could be other reasons like... fear of getting sued? (Not that I, personally, think it's *too* similar to The Hunger Games) Or they wanted to save money and not have to create a dystopian future world/society? *Or* they didn't think they could survive without the obligatory CW overload of product placement like cell phones in every episode? :P

Wow I didn't know they have leaked dropped pilots in the past. I think it would be cool to see the pilot for The Selection. hmm.

If anyone finds out it leaks, please share it.

According to TVLINE, it's going back into redevelopment.

Now I'm even more curious to see (or read the script for) the original rejected pilot... I wonder what changes were made. Were they afraid of being too similar to Hunger Games?

I got a chance to screen the pilot a few weeks ago - I cant post it or anything unfortunately, but it makes perfect sense now why they held it off from the schedule.

It was horrendous!! Acting, plot, direction - nothing seemed to work. All the pieces were there for something good, but it was flat, and boring. Its wonderful that they are taking the time to redevelop it! The plot was so blah. Most it felt more like an even worse version of "The Bachelor" than Hunger Games. I love how the vampire diaries kinda capitalized on Twilight, but had their own take on the vampire world- The Selection I think wanted to do that, but they couldn't decide - every other second was an unnecessary rant about this number and that number / a blantant copy of the Hunger Games. They didn't do a great job either of showing that difference - In the hunger games, it was clearly obvious where the class line was drawn - but in The selection - It was like everyone was middle class, except for the people who had a little extra eyeshadow on.

The worst thing about it though, and I hate to say so is because I really like them in other projects, but America, the Prince and Will Mosley's acting were terrible, there was no chemistry whatsoever. No idea what the CW is gonna do, but I would recast those three. Whoever played the queen was good, and the woman rebel leader and the main bitchy contestant were ok.

I got to see a few other of the pilots - they are actually pretty good. I was perplexed as to why they would need to consider a sex and the city prequel, but the carries diaries was pretty good. And I was shocked by how much I liked beauty and beast. Those were the only ones I saw though - dont know about the new doctor show or the green arrow.

Im really hoping they go all out and make the selection awesome, because I really think it would be their best new show!!

Disappointing but very interesting to hear.

I was both shocked and surprised when the CW didn't pick this pilot up for series.

I'm glad that the pilot is getting retooled and Aimee Teegarden is sticking around for it.

Yeah. I just saw the Selection and it's awful. Awful. Awful. It simply doesn't work.

It has a Bachelor stink that it can't wash off and feels nothing like Hunger Games. It's glossy and dopey and patently terrible. If I were developing it, I'd focus on the rebellion. And recast several of the main roles. Also, it looks atrocious. Like an episode of Gossip Girl. Glossy and shiny. You get no sense of suffering or anything along those lines.

I'm so jealous that you were able to see it. I wasn't that interested, but now that I have heard it is that bad... I want to. Did it leak yet?

reply

lol i was asked to be an extra on this show cause I live in Vancouver and it was filming here but decided not to, guess it was a good choice

I think its better if they retool it and bring the show in once its better. I am very interested in seeing this show because I think there was a lot that could of been improved upon in the book. Im also not too fond of the actors they picked for Aspen and Maxon so I am hoping they recast like I have heard they will. Personally the only actors I can see being Aspen and Maxon are Parker Young and Rowly Dennis so I guess I will have to adjust no matter what.

JEFF : I hate Glee.
PIERCE : I'm not crazy about Glee either.
