Modern classic?

Would any of you say that The Raid 1 and 2 both hold significance in contemporary film and will be recognized as classics in the years to come?

reply

For me, they're my favorite action films to date. They're regarded as instant classics to me. I'm only speaking for myself

Yes and yes.

Now, it’s doubtful film snobs in the future (or present) will hold The Raid films in such high regard, at least compared to other beloved cinematic masterpieces. However, The Raid 1 & 2 are deservingly considered by many to have set a new standard for action films. So seeing how they are already seen as some of the best examples of great action cinema of the 2010s that revolutionized the genre (along with John Wick), then you can bet in years to come people are going to look back at them as significant films.

Obvs there’s detractors of this film that still consider the cheesier - but fun - likes of Die Hard (or other “western” 80’s and 90’s action flicks that aren’t even pure action films or John Woo flicks) to be on another level than The Raid and will smugly state the masterfully executed and intense The Raid isn’t even in the top 20 of all time greatest action films. But, these online naysayers can keep their safe picks. The Raid series ftw! And yes, the John Wick films are already proving to be, along with The Raid, defining films of the action genre. As with The Raid films, praise is not only given to the spectacular action, but virtually EVERY aspect of them is praised. Some of the most beloved action films didn’t get that kind of reception.
