Is The Raid 2 The Best Action Movie Of All time?

I bought the DVD for the Raid 2 and i had to watch it about 3 times. This is surely the best action flick i have seen in a long time. The action was intense and non-stop, hardly anytime to hold my breath.

it is to date....

Didn't care for the story, though. It can't just be slick action scenes.

reply

Yeah it puts other action movies to shame, like seriously.

reply

In terms of action scenes? Yes, definitely one of the best. But, overall, I wouldn't say so because of the weak story. In my opinion, it tried to imitate the Godfather part 2 and little much.

I prefer the first one. The first had a story but didn't waste a bunch of time on it. It remembered exactly what kind of movie it was. The action was amazing in this but i got bored due to the story.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Die Hard, Terminator 2, Fury Road or John Woo's The Killer will wipe the floors with this repetitive and numbing mess which is The Raid .

Seriously this movie isn't even too 20. I don't even think the choreography is all that either. Slow and soft, like a poor man's Ong Bak. No wonder they had to make it so mindlessly bloody, you really don't give a *beep* about the pre-chained moves.

Every single *beep* loser on this board calling it "the best action film ever", no *beep* all about decent combat and how to do it right.

The cinematography is really what saves this film..

Really don’t get why Fury Road always gets put in with best action movies.

I didn't enjoy Fury Road and The Killer is nowhere near The Raid 1, I agree with Die Hard and T2 but would also add the FF:

Apocalypto
Ip Man
Predator
SPL
Baby Driver

I don't know about Baby Driver. I loved two of the chase sequences but the ending was too drawn out and overdone and not in a cool and engrossing sort of way. It reminded me of the end car lot sequence from whichever Mission Impossible that was where they were in Dubai, but not done as well as that car lot sequence in Mission Impossible: Dubai (that's what I'm gonna call it because I can't remember which one that was).

In any case, I absolutely agree with your list of IP Man and Predator. I don't know if SPL: Killzone should be on there given that it only really had two memorable fight sequences at the end. I would, however, argue for Fast Five, as that had some pretty cool action sequences throughout, including the rooftop chase, the street shootout, the brawl in the warehouse, and that unbelievably awesome final safe-chase through the city.

Aliens is also a good contender for that top list, too, as well as The Man From Nowhere.

I know Baby Driver is divided in its reviews and I've seen all the MI films and tbh, aside from the 1st, I don't find the rest to be very memorable. As for SPL, I love the raw and visceral nature of the fights. I love the buildup towards both and the black and white contrast of the 2 fighters. But I saw it over 20 years ago so maybe today's audience no longer find it as raw and intense as I did back then.

reply

Oh I completely agree with you about the Mission Impossible movies. It's hard to remember them. i think MI3 is still my favorite one, even though a lot of other people didn't like it, but I felt it was kind of nonstop and fairly focused on more espionage/covert ops than some of the others.

And you're right about the raw and visceral nature of the fights in SPL... as an action-drama it's a great film, and the build-up to those final two showdowns is really something. But as an all-time action great? Ehhh... I think something like Operation: Red Sea or Yellow Sea would probably be better suited for that list.

Speaking of SPL... I definitely need to remember to check out the 2017 flick Paradox, which I think is attached to the SPL franchise?

No

yes sir, it is the king of all action thrillers :), the fights plus the car chase are beyond incredible, the gore level is off the charts, the body count is insane, and it really did remind me of the video game sleeping dogs since it was about an undercover cop, so i give it bonus points for the nod to sleeping dogs
