This movie separates the DBZ fans who 'got it' from the 'poseurs'!!!!

I loved this movie,it was everything it needed to be and more. Quirky, hilarious, action packed, heart-warming and introspective. If you think it was too "japanese" then I really can't think of a more ignorant view of this film. This movie encapsulated everything DBZ represents (with a touching headnod to the original Dragon Ball as well).

I am grateful to Toriyama for making this excellent film, albeit fanfare. It was like seeing old friends again from my childhood and everyone is doing great!

You could not ask for more. Just saw this last night in the theater and I'm still glowing from the experience. Just a feel good movie all around, they gave you a look at everything in the DBZ world in just 90 minutes and it was chock full of Akira Toriyama's signature style. How could you have watched the original series and not thought deeply about what was going on during those long drawn out fights?

Yeah, they couldn't do a full Goku vs. Frieza scale battle in the span of 90 minutes. Why would anyone think that they could? This movie is a very special experience for true fans of DBZ. Toriyama was able to capture the essence and spirit of the franchise even after all these years.

Much respect! My only complaint was not enough Gohan, although his Great Saiyaman appearance was hilarious.

You must have only seen DBGT or DBZ Kai,

I do like the film, but what's with the Kai hate, it was a lot closer to how the manga was made compared to the original show, in fact I prefer it instead of the original because it's much better paced. Also the Kai dub was way closer to the Japanese script. As for GT, I like it, but I'm not going to defend that (don't want to start a flame war). I guess it all comes down to a matter of opinion, and I really like DBZKai and I like the movie.

The pacing was part of the experience. DBZ taught me patience when it was on Saturday mornings in the U.S. lol.

I never saw Kai much so from what I could tell it's just a homogenized version of the original, if that's not accurate then my mistake.

While that's kind of the deal, as they made it to celebrate the 20th anniversary of DBZ in Japan. But it wasn't a lazy attempt they did a full on remaster of the original DBZ footage, and reanimated damaged prints. The Japan crew decided to make a new script and new voice recording. Funimation decided to do the same, new script (closer to the Japanese script) and voice recording (not as amateur or cheesy). It also shorten episodes and arcs that were just made to slow the show down until the next manga issue came out (example: Garlic Jr. Saga, extended powering). It makes the fights faster, more intense, but just as fun as the original. In my opinion, I like it better then the original, but "that's just my opinion, man."

P.S. Sorry for this long response.

Sounds good, I thought originally it was some half cooked remake simply made for the companies to cash in. I will check out Frieza saga from Kai. My favorite from the series.

Here's Goku's Super Saiyan speech to Frieza in Kai, see if you like it, this was the most epic part of the fight. I didn't like Linda Young as Frieza, she was a lot better as Genkai in Yu Yu Hakusho, so I really enjoyed Frieza's new voice.

I couldn't agree more. Like seeing old friends. I hadn't watched it previously because everyone seemed to be saying it wasn't any good, but a buddy of mine told me to check it out, and I loved it. I can't see why anyone that's a fan of Dragon Ball wouldn't feel the same way.

You are right, this was chock full of Akira Toriyama's signature style, that is, completely mindless *beep* saiyajin wank fest as always. It sucked big time. Aahahah!

Why are you here if you aren't a fan?

From that comment I doubt you even like DBZ.

I am not afraid to call out trolls.

reply

I only came here, because, i knew that the few remaining saiyajin crazy fanboys would say that this one dimensional crap with a shallow story is great.
Plus, they also would say that box office numbers were amazing, when in fact, they were terrible. I was tired to see dbz saiyajin numb nuts twist the facts.
Take note, that there are only saiyajin fanboys in this franchise, because, everyone else is a clown. Aahahahah.

Can't say I loved it, but it was certainly pretty good! I agree that it needed more Gohan... Him blocking bullets with his finger was cool.
