Tom Sturridge

To paraphrase Chris Rock: If you want Eddie Redmayne, and all you can get is Tom Sturridge,...WAIT!!!

Ok, he's better in Part 2, but still overshadowed by most of the rest of the cast.

I think he's the stand out in Part II.

Henry VI can almost vanish once the Wars of the Roses get into their stride. He did rather well, I thought, maintaining a focus on himself and I liked what they did with his mad soliloquy, with its cheeky forward references to Hamlet and Lear on the heath.

Henry V is supposed to be a bit anonymous, he's an official goody so Shakey satirises him by making him bland.

Henry V was far from bland

I think Squeeth meant Henry VI.

That smartalec alfa teed him up and then altered his own typo.

Henry as Hal wasn't bland. Henry as Henry V ("uneasy lies the head that wears a crown") was bland as all get-out.

Hamlet, Lear... and Gollum. Didn't you see what they did there?

reply

Lol! I'm watching series 2 right now, and I have to say, he leaves something to be desired. Does anyone think he says his lines weird?

It's like he has a mouthful of marbles.

Tom Sturridge's performance "fits" the role very well. Shakespeare's version of H6 is supposed to be a bit dim, well meaning but awkward and ineffective. A cleverer actor like Eddie Redmayne wouldn't have worked as well in the role.
