17th most watched network show and it gets canceled???

According to Entertainment Weekly, Vegas was the 17th most watched network show of the 2012-2013 season -- and it got canceled???

WTF is up with that?

It ranked higher than several shows (including 2 Broke Whores) and almost as much as several other shows (including powerhouses Castle and Modern Family) that have been renewed for next year.

So again: WTF, CBS????

I have to agree! I found the show to be exciting and fun to watch.....The typical death knell for a TV show. CBS Has some great shows, and some good ideas, but some shows have to blossom. The finale was wonderful and the actors are hitting their stride. CBS just because to didn't hit the ball "out of the park" doesn't means it deserved cancellation. A double or a triple is just as good as a home run sometimes, and is certainly a good hit! This show needs to be picked up for next season!!!!

I came on here to see if anybody else saw that. I'm just flabbergasted! Bones which needed to be canceled years ago keeps plugging along and it was towards the bottom, I don't get it. =/

I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes then fell away. Please tell me, does the show end on a cliffhanger?

No it does not thankfully. They did a great job of wrapping everything up but still set it up for new stories if it had a second season.

Must have been too expensive for CBS to produce. Who knows, maybe another network will pick it up. It happens. NBC cancelled JAG and CBS bought it and look how that turned out.

reply

Duh Tammy!

Expense had nothing to do with it!

reply

Duh..EXPENSE DID have everything to do with it!!

The salaries alone of Dennis, Michael & Carrie was probably half their budget...

But I agree...I loved this show and I know a lot of people watched it.
But CBS doesn't give new shows or old ones much of a chance...they have cancelled several great shows in the last year..

I feel like all the networks have really gotten trigger happy on canceling shows. I find it so frustrating and now I'm hesitant to give new shows a try. I don't like reality shows at all anymore.

reply

Reality shows are the MAIN reason networks have been cancelling our fave shows...they think people would rather watch crap instead of a good drama!!!

It took me a few shows to get into Golden Boy ...it got good and then they cancelled it! It's very frustrating..

reply

No. They're canceling them because of ratings.

Otherwise CBS wouldn't of picked up Vegas in the first place.

reply

Sorry but a double or triple are NEVER as good as a home run. It doesn't matter if you have the bases loaded and hit a triple and score 3 runs. Well it could have been four with a homerun. This was a terrible example because it makes no sense. Now...carry on.

reply

it was also the 2nd highest rated new show of the season. Makes zero sense to cancel it. It can't be any more expensive than any other show, can it?

reply

What I don't understand when networks say that a show is too expensive is-
I would think that a huge part of the initial costs is set building, wardrobe, props. Once you buy/build this stuff wouldn't your costs settle?
Why spend all this money to begin with and then just toss it all away?
And - don't they know how much they are paying the actors for the show? How are the costs a surprise, that it's too expensive?

reply

I don't think any network is gonna cancel a show because of expense unless they're the one's who created the show in the first place.

Vegas was canceled because of demographics. IOW, not enough people in the 18-49 age group watched the show. Many otherwise fairly popular shows are canceled for the same reason. Apparently advertisers think only those who are 18-49 buy any goods and services.

I just found out tonight , to my disappointment, that "Vegas" had been canceled. Not the first time this has happened with a show I enjoyed. Too bad for viewers and for advertisers as well, because we're not part of the 18-49 demographic, but my spouse and I do spend lots of money on goods and services. :/

I don’t follow ratings so I was unaware of how the show was performing. I considered it a high quality show and it hadn’t occurred to me that there was any possibility it would have been cancelled. I just visited the board to try to find out when season 2 would begin airing. What a disappointment.
