Just Read In TV Guide VEGAS Is Going To Be Cancelled!

Because the average viewer is 60.2 years old. Let's substitute 60.2 with Latino or Black or gay. Would you find that offensive. This show is # 8 in Nielsen ratings last week. But because old people are the only one's watching, they are going to cancel. Sixty today is NOT 60 from 20 or 30 years ago. The networks should be ashamed of themselves. Most sixty year olds today listen to today's music, are technologically savvy, and plan to work until they drop because they know they can't rely on Social Security. Short sightedness on part of networks. And they wonder why their numbers are dwindling. Offend any group of people as they do people over 50 with not a moment of conscience and they will find other things to do. Plus, these people generally have the time & money to spend on advertisers the youngsters don't because they are simply too busy raising children, working and attending school events and being involved in children's lives. Shameful behavior on ANYone's part denigrating any group of people!!!

reply

Vegas could have been a great show but the plot has gone so far sideways it's probably just as well they cancel it.

reply

I agree completely that the plot has gone "sideways" . . . the writers had a great premise, but didn't know what to do with it!

"Forget it, Jake - - it's Chinatown!"

reply

First of all what the hell do you let's substitute black latino or gay? Plus I'm 40 and hardly listen to modern day music so what makes you think most 60 likes modern music.

idiot!

reply

I thought the OP made perfect sense, with the substitute comment.
And my mom is nearly 60 and does listen to more than just old music. Just because you don't, it doesn't mean no one else does.

reply

Can't wait till Ms./Mr. 40 is 60 and not only are your opinions irrelevant, but considered idiotic. However, judging by the wording and structure of your comment, I suspect you are way younger than 40. Freedom of speech - ain't it wonderful? In the end, another decent show bites the dust and reality shows blossom. You get what you work for or don't support. Television is changing faster than the average person is aware of, just trying to bring some of that information in here.

reply

Network shortsightedness will kill another good show. The networks need to realize that they don't run the playground anymore. I hope it gets picked up by AMC or TNT or one of the others. It could even go to CW.

reply

Let's hope this gets picked up by a cable network and becomes even better. FYI, I am not even close to 60 and I love this era. Sad.... another decent show bites the dust for likely more reality crap.

reply

TV Guide is only guessing (and hopefully wrong). There's no official word on whether it will be back or not.

reply

THANK GOD! But today is March 3, 2013. Anyone know?

reply

Not shocked by the foolish behavior of any network. List of good shows cancelled early is long.

But in all fairness, Vegas has not been a stellar show. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it but the show started off SUPER bad and matured into a pretty good show with recurring flaws. Or in grade form,

Start: D
Middle: B+
Lately: B-

Its a million times better than Revolution and Mob Dr.

reply

Sad to see it go, but it killed me every week to even turn on that network. Bitter sweet.

.
If Vegas should be cancelled, I would love to see it paired with Longmire on A&E TV. Both are modern cowboy series with strong leading men as county/city sheriff, also both are set in the era of 1960's, and both in desert towns which Vegas was until only about 30 years ago. By pairing, I don't mean to combine them, just to be run back to back. I love both shows.

Remember THE EVENT? The season finale was great! What happens? It got yanked...left me wondering about that other planet moving closer to earth---was it a companion planet, a replacement for Earth, what?

I haven't watched the last episode of Vegas (dvr) and now I'm thinking---what's the point...

BTW, heykate---did you use Dragon for your last post? :)

reply

I agree with your love for both shows, but I'm not sure it helps to overstate their similarities. Both are not set in the same era, and both are not set in the desert.

If Vegas is indeed let go by the network, then I agree with you that I'd love to see it picked up by someone else!

reply

with any luck TNT will pick it up , by the way the wife and I are 50 not 60, everyone we know that watches it is around are age, where do they get their ratings from because everything I like gets canned

reply

Longmire isn't set in the 1960's...

reply

Well said Heykateforever. You summed it up perfectly.

There's so much wrong with the way the networks are ruining (running) their shows and either they have 5-year-olds in charge of the entertainment productions or they are simply completely out of touch with what average viewers want! It's appalling, the lack of connection they have with audiences. Put simply, they have become way too ADD about new shows (although some are just so horrible (Do No Harm ie) that why they were even considered boggles the mind). When a new show starts, the audience has no connection with the characters or the story. That takes time to build. But rather than give a decent show time to develop (perhaps the best example of this is Journeyman, a wonderful show about 6 or so years ago that lasted only 13 episodes) they look at the God of all television decisions - the almighty 18 - 49 demographic and make their decision based solely on that. Even high Neilsen numbers fall down to the Almighty demographic - as I said before, the ages where people are simply too busy to strap on the TV in the evenings. So, now the audiences have become much more savvy. Instead of investing what little time this demographic has for picking a TV show to watch, they wisely wait to see what shows "make it" through the networks unfathomable decision-making process, catch up on the first year or two on Hulu or Netflix and then might become a fan. The networks have created their own demise by shortsightedness and impatience. THEN to make things just a tad worse, they figure they'll increase revenues and viewership by throwing tawdry reality shows and inane sitcoms at us. It's a wonder we are still watching TV at all! It is no wonder that USA, TNT, AMC, FX, and other cable networks are quickly running up the tail pipes of the networks and seriously doing much harm to them. I say YAYYY to that. About time the almighty NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX are getting kicked in the groin by us much smarter viewers and cable networks who are paying attention and giving us more of what we want!
