If I never played Halo...

Will this just confuse me?

reply

naw. it's pretty straightforward. Some stuff you won't get but it won't matter.

reply

I never played Halo, but i really liked the movie.

reply

So I finally watched it on Netflix & it was pretty good. Only confusing part I think the computers were segueing or something at the beginning.

If only the had the balls to make a Real blockbuster.

reply

Yes.

Nothing is explained. They talk about "Innies" for the first 50 minutes and then they end up having no purpose in the movie whatsoever. The aliens are never explained as to who they are, where they come from, why they attacked, etc...

The first 50 minutes is incredibly boring, the last 40 minutes is decent action.

Overall, I don't recommend it at all.

For the record, I am not a Halo player.

reply

Most people wont get the 'innies' reference unless they have read the books, including Halo players.

Yeah the first half was incredibly boring. Second half had decent action.

I think there are some moments where you're meant to go wow they showed that!! Which non Halo players wouldn't pick up on, such as the "we're being hunted line"

Why wasn't I surprised Master Chief didnt take his helmet off. That's gotta be some meta fiction joke.

reply

I got that line because they talk about insurrectionists...and I've never read the books, I haven't played all the games except for the 4th installment though.

And about the computer glitching at the beginning, that was the beginning of Cortana losing her mind, which as I understand is a plot line from the fourth game.

One of the first lines spoken by the cadets is about "insurrectionists", and the next line out of that character's mouth includes the word "innies".

If someone doesn't get that, I'm not sure they're able to breathe without assistance.

Quidquid Latinae dictum sit, altum viditur.

This movie was made for Halo fans. Very small audience they were marketing to I believe. That's why people that don't play the games really don't like the movie because there are a lot of things in it that you wouldn't understand.

reply

I never played a Halo game, even when I have one... ego shooter is just not my preference... I never installed it. Yet I like the silly Red vs. Blue series and I like this one too. I wish for a sequel.

reply

Not really. I'm a 62 year old Marine Vet. Never played halo. Not my thing. Still got most of the more obscure stuff supposedly reserved for halo players only. All a person has to do in most cases is listen and pay attention. Not hard to extrapolate meanings. Watched it with a few of my peers and we all thought it was well done and far better than the budget and required production shortcuts. Too bad they didn't take advantage of the moment and expand on the premise. I'd buy the dvds of whatever they came up with next, whereas I'd never buy the video game. Was entertaining.

Why should the watcher have more information than the cadets? The entire "series" (I watched it as movie) is from their point of view and you get the information they have and get to know.
Sure in that wild escape they will stop and ask the Master Chief all questions about the whys >.>

I wasn't confused nor did I expect to know more than the cadets knew. Makes perfect sense to me as it was.

If the writers wanted the inexperienced watcher to know such information they would have added it. Like a better intel scene or squeeze out some chitchat time with Master Chief while on the run.
It was left out on purpose. And only makes me want to watch more.

BTW I didn't play any Halo games or read any books. The only Halo I encountered before was the Red vs Blue machinima series.
