Doesn't everyone eventually go to the Land of the Forgotten?

I was surprised at the end of the film that they never addressed the problem of the Land of the Forgotten.
When enough time passes, everyone is forgotten (logically). Doesn't this ultimately make the ending of the movie sad?

reply

Not necessarily. I mean, it depends on what 'remembered' means. Think about how many people are into geneology, is just having that name on a family tree somewhere enough to remain in the land of the remembered? How about anyone thinking about "all my ancestors that went before me"? Is having your name carved on a wall that people see enough to be remembered?

One of Manolo's remembered ancestors (one-armed one-legged dude) is wearing a conquistador helmet. And I think he showed up earlier as a painting on the wall? That suggests you can be "remembered" by people who never met you in life.

reply

No the movie ends before everyone is forgotten, not sad at all.

Unless your famous and written in history books, everyone is forgotten after two generations.

My two biggest fears are losing all the knowledge that I've acquired in this life, and being forgotten after I'm gone.

Everything else is really kind of trivial, but it's hard to let go of those prevailing fears.

"I can't help but notice that there are skulls all over everything. Are we the baddies?"

reply

Not necessarily. They are still talking about the main characters, so they are not forgotten.

When you think about it, the dead would remember each other....

reply

That is what the Day of the Dead is for. To keep everyone remembered for longer.
