f this narrative ****SPOILER****

**SPOILER ALERT** When Manolo deals with Xibalba to see Maria again, Xibalba asks him to confirm his wish — as if his final answer matters — and when Manolo does, Xibalba simply kills him. But if Maria was never dead, the dude just straight up murdered him, thereby never having abided to an agreement at all. If he’s not beholden to any responsibility to adhere to agreements, then he could’ve just murdered Manolo from the beginning with some seemingly random snake. What’s worse, is that EVEN after he’s exposed as a cheater, La Muerte needs to beg him to right his wrong because apparently he can just do whatever the *beep* he wants and thus, a further wager is required. Which is totally meaningless since he can technically fail to honour his part on this as well.
Also, before Manolo is resurrected, the Gods say “In accordance with the ancient rules […]” So there’s a set of ancient rules which cover wagers with gods in the afterlife?
This was visually awesome but had a nonsensical plot and *beep* message for a young impressionable mind taking notes and inspiration from the underhanded tricks of Xibalba who loses nothing for this shady actions in the end. Why the *beep* would La Muerte even place a wager, and remain with someone who’s not only a repeated cheater, but has the ability to do so with no consequences??

You really should write *spoiler alert*. It's just a common courtesy.

Or you could actually hide the spoiler by typing out the entire word "spoiler" and adding brackets around them and a slash before the word in the second spoiler like [spoilerr] [/spoilerr]. (extra "r's" on purpose)

oh cool, I wondered how others accomplished this. Though, in this case, my entire comment would be hidden. So I think I'll leave it as-this since it's applicable across the board.
Thanks for the tip though!!

That was kind of the point? Xibalba couldn't win through fair means so he cheated.

Although he was exposed, the deal was done and so the further wager was required.

I do take your point about the "accordance of ancient tradition" though, but ultimately this is a fable and should be treated as such.
