Montalbano's lovelife

Missed it on Saturday and can't get catch-up so could someone fill me in what's happening with Salvo's love-life. Someone mentioned Ingrid in another thread, has he started something with her yet, or is he still with Mery?

reply

As of episode 2 Montalbano was with Mery. As of episode 3 he's with Livia, who is in the credits for the remainder of the series whereas the actress playing Mery is listed for just 2 episodes. There's no character called Ingrid according to the cast list.

Why do you refuse to remember me?

Yes, just watched tonight and saw how he got together with Livia. She seemed quite "simpatica" in this series but was a bit of a shrew in the original. Hpwever, I still don't know what happened between Salvo and Mery last week, they seemed quite together, and now they're not!

Mery wanted to get a bit closer it seems, and he didn't it appeared. He forgot to meet her off the bus and she took taxi to his house and went to bed and waited for him. He then came home, not knowing she was there, went out to see an elderly lady who was a bit of crime expert it seems. Mery heard this and questioned him when he got back.

She accused Salvo of being uncomfortable when she was at his house and it ended in it looked like in the middle of the night with her going off in taxi. He had a change of heart but when he went to see her (she was coming out of what looked like college but not sure how old she was meant to be) she had found someone else and they rode off on the new boyfriend's scooter together.

I get the impression the ladies chase him more than he chases them unlike Augello who was hilarious in this week's episode! Does anyone who has read the books know how old Livia was meant to be when they hooked up?

Thanks for that! Yes, I also think Salvo is the one who is pursued, especially in the original series, there was one woman whose clothes just seemed to fall off whenever she got caught in the rain. Then there was the bold Ingrid who seemed to suffer from an occasional bout of narcolepsy and was so instantly overcome with fatigue that she had to take all her clothes off and lie down in Salvo's bed!
Practically the only woman who doesn't make a pass is Adelina, but I have to admit, I'd be right in there too!
Loved Salvo's first encounters with Mimi, they both gave as good as they got! But I didn't like how Miimi looked, a bit Borat!

Sorry it did go on a bit! I agree about Mimi he did, in a way they made him a figure of fun i.e a stereotypical Romeo etc but he is funny. Glad the elder Fazio survived he looks such a nice man! Always makes me hungry watching this though!

In the end, Salvo is primarily dedicated to his job and his relationships with girlfriends suffer as a result; the shift from "simpatica" Livia to disillusioned Livia is really the same journey that Mery makes - played lentissimo in Livia's case as opposed to the prestissimo appearance and disappearance of Mery). So it's the informal relationship with Ingrid that survives, precisely because there are no strings attached; neither of them has illusions or demands more than the other can give.
