Series 3?

Nobody knows for sure yet.

I have to say that I think the end of Series 1 was so emphatic that we were really meant to feel that it was a crucial turning point: after Young Montalbano decides he simply cannot leave Sicily to marry Livia - and, crucially, she gives him her blessing - he effectively "becomes" the older Montalbano. The "prologue", the "early years of" Inspector Montalbano, end at this point.

But that could easily be ignored if the demand for more were strong enough.
