I haven't seen this movie yet, but in the 2012 short with the same name, it's a sin for men and women to lie together outside of the breeding season. Implying that men and women do have sex for reproduction, just not for recreation/love.

That was actually explained in the movie during the scene where the Santillis eat a taco dinner.
There is a "breeding" season when women and men get together in order to procreate.
I caution any viewer from getting too technical. It's an allegory, after all. :-)
True but t is sooo strange that Homosexuality becomes the norm when natural breeding is still acknowledged.
It just makes the whole premise fall
