The essence of this movie is incredible

I saw this movie a week ago and watched it again today with my teenage daughters. The reality is that we live in a world where we have created a gay stereotype. We think we know in our head what "gay" looks like. What I am trying to teach my daughters is that noting someone is gay and making that their identity is the root of the problem. We are people with a set of characteristics and our sexual orientation is no different. None of us feels compelled to spend time discussing or make movies concerning brown haired people or tall people. It should be the same for gay people. This was incredibly painful for my daughters to watch, but pain is transformative. And it is easy to ignore the pain of others. This movie forces us to not only see it but feel it, helping us understand our focus should be our shared humanity. A must see.
