Flash Forward Scenes in Season 2

We are on the last episode of Season 3, which is more coherent than Season 2 with the flash forward scenes. It seems like we're supposed to pretend those scenes never happened (Sarah as an old woman with her granddaughter interviewing her). What I can't figure out is why they decided to flash forward at all. Anyone know anything about the motivation for these scenes?

Well, there was much confusion at the time surrounding the segue from series to series 3.

Some of these disjointed flash forward scenes might have been the victim of the sudden cancellation of the show right when series 3 was going to be shot.

Then after dying a quick death, there was the later renewal by another network altogether--during which the end of series 2 was simply ignored and another "end" reshot to begin series 3 with Foxtel on a different path.

Not sure how the interview scenes work into this crazy sequence of events that APTCH went through at that time--but it might be related. Not sure, though.

I thought the interviewer (Samantha) was Olivia granddaughter... (thus why she was played by same actress)

its because the show was axed at the end of season 2 so they never continued with that storyline. they had to do a bit of back tracking when the show was renewed by foxtel

This thread reminds me how confusing this was a few years ago! :-))

It's turned up on my local PBS station, among other places, and they are now showing series 1 and just began series 2.

Happened to catch by accident the first episode with the aged Sarah being interviewed by Olivia's grandaughter.

Several years ago, I never questioned the grandaughter looking exactly like Olivia, because in other scenes happening then, Olivia was pregnant.

But then later we see that Olivia's child is not her own, due to the change up at the hospital. So, unless Olivia had more children with or without James's assistance, this makes no sense (her grandaughter looking exactly like her).

It makes sense too as others have written that, with the reboot after cancellation, they just made those series 2 scenes kind of "go away" and perhaps will never be followed up on.

And so far, anyway, in series 4, we still don't have a biological child happening for Olivia. But she's young. So logically it can still happen and Samantha can be that grandaughter.

Will be interesting to see if series 5+ they ever go back and address that.

It wasn't her granddaughter, it was James and Olivia's. She called James "Grandad" and was played by the actress who plays Olivia.
