Politics aside, the main character is spunky, sweet, and HILARIOUS

Had they not found her late in the casting process, the film would likely have been decent but not nearly as great.

Of course, she benefits from a strong script as well (the character being modelled after the director's niece, who is always scheming to get money some way or other). I think my favourite moment of all was when her friend offers her ten dinars or whatever it was if she will stop crying. She does not yet uncover her face, but with perfect comic timing holds out her open hand for the cash! LOL

Yeah the way she was trying to earn the money was hilarious. I felt bad laughing at her but she was such a funny character and good fun.

Her moneymaking schemes were great. Also, when she asks the "brother" of that one girl in the beginning that she was promised money from him!

I LOL when she told that guy "even your money reeks of cologne".

...and a true rebel. Se had a strong & independent spirit. Good little actress for sure.

Indeed, Waad Mohammed is wonderful in her role al Wadjda. She's really funny and brave, she had me follow her through the story. And at the end all I did was shout: 'YEAH!'
