head covering

This is the first Saudi movie I have ever seen, but I was surprised that in the movie the Saudi actresses appear with the hair uncovered in indoor scenes, even though head covering is legally mandatory. In Iranian movies, the actresses have a head covering all the time, even if the scene is indoors.

No, women are free to wear what they want when there are no non-family men looking at them in their own homes.

From what I have read, nowhere is it mandatory to cover your head according to the Koran, but the culture has groomed them in such a way that they automatically assume its for their God by interpreting certain sections of the Koran quite elaborately.

I was puzzled about that, and that also than the women, teachers, mother - seemed to be very western-style clothed, almost sexily at times, a lot of make-up. I know that in Western schools kids sometimes have to wear uniform, while teachers don't. But in this culture/film it is a religious imperative - a deeper rationale. And the total head-cover that some women put on seemed extreme, not even a burqa mesh to see through.

Because it's a girls school, inside there since there are no males, the teachers don't have to cover themselves. Also regarding the make up and clothes, muslim women can fancy, western clothes under their abayas. Maybe they wear gucci and dior under those abayas and the make up, they can wear make up.
