Something was missing in this movie

This was a really strange film. It felt like there were entire pieces missing, like a bad edit or something. Half of the film did not go with the other half at all and at times it seemed like there were scenes missing. The plot never really came together and the romance was really underdeveloped. I would not be surprised if this was one of those movies where the film got taken away from the director and re-cut without his cooperation once filming was over. It was such a short film but I wouldn't be surprised if this movie was originally an hour longer. It just felt choppy. It was fun to see Woody Allen act again though. It's too bad, I am such a fan of Turturro as well...I wanted to like it but I couldn't possibly recommend it. Did anyone else feel the same way?

Exactly what kind of scenes were "missing"? How did the plot not come together? You have to qualify those generalizations; it makes for a better discussion. :)

You may be used to movies where everything is spelled out for the audience. This is a movie which requires a little thought on the part of the viewer, to fill in the blanks, as it were. Such movies used to be more common, but I guess much of today's audience is used to simpler, more obvious plot development. This film certainly did not tie everything up in a neat little package, with everything clearly resolved. It's a bit more like life, where things happen, without a final ending. It doesn't mean there were pieces missing, it just means that life is like that.

what a great response. It is so true. Just like life where things happen, without a final ending.. cheers!

Yeh, it was just a terrible movie. Even if it were longer with more expository I dare say it wouldn't have improved it.

I agree completely. I was surprised by how half baked the movie felt. The movie was remarkably rushed. The main plot is set up almost immediately, and the movie really didn't take its time developing any of these characters. We know next to nothing about Turturro, or Woody, for that matter, or why Woody is so keen on having Turturro work as a gigolo. A better movie would have spent at least fifteen minutes setting up these two characters, then introducing the main plot. We get these really brief glimpses of this unique world of Woody's, but they all feel like a collection of ideas, and not fully realized storylines. It was almost as if the entire thing was made on the fly, after Woody thought up the idea over brunch.

It was underdeveloped, for sure. The main guy's Gigolo journey wasn't well documented; I would've like to of seen the affect it had on his life and interaction with women. And you're right about the disconnect or something not adding up, because by the 55th minute i'd lost the story.

For starters what was Woody Allen doing in this movie and what was the point of his relationship to the woman and her son? And ditto Sharon Stone and Sofia Vegara. Parts of it felt like a film written and directed by Woody Allen. So much of it felt irrelevant.
