This Show Breaks My Heart

I can't believe that a show was made about a particular group of people who for the most part have birth issues (Downs, Aspergers, Apert & Crouzon Syndrome to name a few), which unfortunately from our society's vain standpoint affects their appearances and worst of all they are used to showcase how supposedly undesirable they really are, especially to the opposite sex...

How utterly sad that ANYONE would want to use these poor people for ratings or worse yet what appears to be a glorified dog and pony show...

I am speechless...

You can't see the forest for the trees.

Agreed.

Completely ignored the fact that this show gives the people on it exactly what they've desired all their life - dates with the opposite sex.

Sure to some who are cynical this show may seem like it's exploiting people with disabilities for ratings. But as someone mentioned, it helps them to find someone, even though it doesn't work out sometimes. Equally important is that it brings these people's disabilities to light and creates awareness, which in turn can lead to understanding and tolerance. I have never met someone with autism, nor do I have any understanding of how their condition affects them, but this show has helped me understand that. I have also heard others comment on how demeaning the name of the show is, but really this is more of how the public may view these people rather than how the people who made the show see it.

Please, the dating service they use would exist without the programme, and I'm sure in this world of modern technology there are many other avenues they can go down. Don't kid yourself thathandful of people they highlight in this show helps the millions of people that live with the types of conditions shown here. The narrators semi snickering tone and the poor choice of background music, shows what they were aiming for in this. I just saw my first episode today and it was heartbreaking. It didn't quite infuriate me like the original commentator, and I might possibly watch it again if nothing else was on, but this is clearly exploitation.

I must re-post what the 2nd poster said: "you can't see the forest for the trees"

You are exactly the target audience for all of the bad "reality" tv and soap operas out there. Why don't you turn your tv off for an hour and go on a date with one of the "millions of people that live with the types of conditions shown" instead of sitting around watching and pretending to disapprove of these shows?
