A Chinese movie that start out semi-interesting...
...And devolves into a completely unsatisfying mess.
I actually had high hopes that it was going to be a kind of Indiana Jones with kung-fu. And really, that's how it felt for the first 20 minutes. Then it looked like it was going to be all about a tournament. Sure, I can go with that. Then it was about finding some treasures? Or was it about a chosen man who would represent the temple with his sleeping Kung-fu? No wait! Its the romance between the daughter and the monk! Oh, but wait, it's about the budding romance between the two most skilled fighters! Nuh-uh! It's about the evil bad guy that tricked everyone! Etc. Etc.
This film changes course so bloody often on what you think you're supposed to put your focus on, you're just going to walk away shrugging your shoulders. Which is a shame, because there is some truly well shot locations here, along with a couple well done fights. But even these exist along side too much slow-mo and some incredibly cheesy special effects.
Strangely enough, the film also feels much longer than it really is, which is never a good sign.
5/10 from the users? Sounds about right, maybe just a tad lower.
