Kinda disappointed by the treatment of the girl...

I mean, she looks fairly badass in the beginning and ending sequences, but she gets KOed or rendered helpless about 4X more than either of the male MC's, and she looks worse than both of them in the direct fights against them. Come off a little lame for someone set up to be such a badass, poor girl...

CONTAINS SPOILERS!

I find myself in disagreement with you, so let us have a look:

(Just to clarify: We are talking about the fictional character's actions within the storyline, not about the actress' martial arts performance, which is pretty solid throughout the entire flick.)

Her first fight was against the Orc shaman, which she won despite his dirty tricks.

The second one was at the general's/magistrate's office. That one she lost. Mind you, against all in all four blokes: two guards present, one additional entering and the general himself (although there can be seen four guards when they dragged her out -- there are also four guards named in the credits). Eventually she was clubbed unconscious from behind with a funny sound.

That crackhead in the dungeon was next, and dealt with sovereignly -- but then again, he was blind.

The skirmish against Keltus was clearly a tie (and I'm being generous here towards Keltus).

The first scene together with Kullimon (the good Orc) wasn’t dead-serious and therefore doesn't count. Yet it should be mentioned that she got her derrière spanked with the flat side of his blade.

Next we had the fight against the Undead at the Bleeding Stone. She's only involved shortly, yet she owns them, and no mistake.

At the crossing, where she sought to receive the bone vessel, she was overpowered from behind by the whip-wielding Orc -- no real fight here.

When she was prisoner of the cursed Orc horde and freed by Kullimon, she slayed several Orcs in order to get her sword back.

Both she and Kullimon didn't look too good against the one-armed dwarf, but said dwarf was wielding more guns than Dirty Harry.

During her final fight against the priests of Goth Azul Nemyt killed every last of them, yet the High priest managed to wound her fatally. She did let the ball drop on that one, but by the time of his counter attack she had already cleft his skull atwain (great scene, by the way).

No, mate, Nemyt rules!

At least she wasn't your atypical "super chick" that seems to be in action movies today. She actually does get hurt in this movie.

What I found interesting is they had no problem showing her messing up the orcs and yet, in the scene at the crossing you mentioned, they do *not* show that orc hitting her with his mace. Why?

It's alright to show female characters hitting male ones but not the other way around? Double standards indeed.

Now don't jump to conclusions. I have nothing against strong female roles in movies. What I find to be a somewhat disturbing trend is the fact that male characters are there to be used as punching bags for said female.

She got hit plenty.
However, the scene really in question is a little different...

Because at that point, the target (Nemyt) is prone and stationary, ie lying on the floor. It takes a LOT of careful choreography to literally beat a prone target without looking awful and/or hurting the actor for real. Far easier to have the target off-camera (ie not there at all) and imply the beating. Having been that prone target on the accidental receiving end of a 'convincing' blow during filming, it can do some serious and permanent damage - I was lucky and escpaed with my collarbone intact, but it could have gone VERY badly.

It's purely a cinematography thing, rather than a gender issue.

Why u think Die Hard movies were such a success? He was always covered in blood(mostly his),glass, dirt etc.people like to see heroes act like a real life person and not like a video game character in GODMODE or manga/anime lil' girls with huge huge swords...

*U need not be a movie pro or critic,u just need common sense*

Yeah I get ya but she does get a bigger share of that than the guys... Also letting go of her sword and leaving it in the guy's head just so she can get sliced seemed totally out of character for an experienced warrior.

By that time she had to be pretty exhausted. She had been beaten at the crossroad, dragged across the plain, tied up and hassled, shot in the back with an arrow, shot in the side with an arrow and had said arrow ground in by an Orc. All this while fighting off the poison of her curse. Her strength was well recognized by everyone.
She was almost overcome while lying wounded and used her last burst of energy to defeat the bad priests. Seeing her sword buried in the last guys head probably gave her the feeling it was over and she just gave out.

I thought you were going to say girls with huge, huge tracks of land.

It's easy to think that at face value, but think about it. She carried the heaviest burdens of all. Keltus had the Goddess claiming him as her own to aid him with his 'curse', so he was cured. She held her curse the duration of basically the whole movie, overcoming it and a series of what should have been fatal wounds. Damn determination I tell you. Best character in the whole movie...though I do have a thing for blue eyes and Elves.

I mostly agree with the third quote. After Nemyt buries her sword in the final priest's head, she loses her grip on the weapon and staggers back a couple of steps. It's not that she's suddenly gotten careless or thinks that the fight's over - it's because she's got absolutely nothing left. She looks as though she's about to collapse even before the priest slices her.
