Will Broadchurch be affected by Chibnall getting showrunner for Dr Who?

Chris Chibnall will replace Steven Moffat as showrunner on Doctor Who, starting with Season 11, which will likely begin filming in 2017. Will this affect the production of Broadchurch Season 3?

reply

According to Olivia Colman Broadchurch 3 will start filming in May 2016, so CC has plenty of time to prepare for Dr. Who in 2017.Broadchurch 3 is already in pre-production (and Andrew Buchan, Jodie Whittaker and Charlotte Beaumont have confirmed at the National Television awards that they will be in it alongside Tennant and Colman). Rumour has it Broadchurch was always planned as a trilogy, like the Danish show "Forbrydelsen"(=The Killing).

The CC Dr. Who episodes will not be produced before mid-2017.

I think I read that there would only be a Doctor Who Christmas special in 2016 and then Steven Moffat's final series would air in 2017. If Broadchurch 3 finishes post-production in the fall of 2016, that gives Chibnall a lot of time to get ready for his first series of DW.

I could see ITV putting pressure on Chibnall to find a way to continue occasional series surrounding Hardy and Ellie, though he's been pretty definitive about doing just the trilogy.

No, not at all. Broadchurch was always planned to be a trilogy so the season that's currently in pre-production will be the final season. Chibnall doesn't take over till 2018, so Broadchurch will be done and dusted by the time he starts work on Who.
