When did you guess the killer?

I was sure it was Tom, the kid. I thought Joe was a red herring, that he was actually protecting Tom. Funny how that's where Gracepoint went. I haven't seen it nor had I heard of it at the time I was watching Broadchurch, but I read about that change somewhere.

I had my suspicions a few episodes in when I noticed that all the characters basically got their background story dissected,but Joe didn't.

He was the only one who was just kind of there and wasn't put under the same scrutiny as the rest of the characters.

My sister had me guess a few minutes into the second episode and I guessed Joe. I figured Tom wouldn't try to delete that stuff if he wasn't trying to protect someone, so I figured that meant the killer had to be Joe, since I didn't think it was Ellie.

I had no idea Jim Furyk was guilty until Alec asked his shoe size.

I never knew it was going to be Joe specifically, but I suspected that the killer would be someone with a shaved head. Aside from Joe and Nigel, there seemed to be a lot of shaved heads on the male extras. It made me think that the show was going to have some kind of mistaken killer identity and that did happen with Nigel's mom mistaking Joe for Nigel.

I know that in reality, there are many men with shaved heads. But tv shows usually steer clear of casting actors who look too much alike because they don't want to confuse the audience. So I concluded that they were just intentionally trying to confuse the audience.

I suspected Tom and/or Joe. Tom seemed worried a lot, he asked curious questions, and he even tried to destroy his computer. I figured either he did it, or he knew who did and was protecting them. Which led me to wonder if he somehow protecting his father.

I began to suspect Joe early on, simply because I liked him so much and because he was never a suspect. This is more understanding how TV shows work than actual investigations but it worked!

It had crossed my mind once before that perhaps it was Joe, but none of his actions ever made him look suspicious or guilty. So then my next suspect was Danny's grandma! Simply because the show always glazed right over her and she was about the only person who wasn't questioned by detectives.
