Broadchurch 3.1

Good first episode, intriguing case where I have no idea what has happened at this point. Hardy and Ellie are working together, Hardy's daughter is visiting him and Ellie and her son are living with her father. Beth and Mark seem to be separated and Beth is working to help victims. A little bit too much of a coincidence that Beth ends up assigned to Ellie's case but I'm just chalking that up to the fact that it is a small place with very few victims.

We just finished the season, and I'm still mulling over how I feel about it. There were some threads that I enjoyed, and there were others (no spoilers) which made me feel like I was trapped inside a Public Service Announcement. In a way, I felt as if much of Ellie and Alec's dialogue was being guided by how things *should* be handled in that kind of investigation, but not necessarily the reality of it. Unlike previous seasons, I felt there were some sentimental, crowd pleasing moments like Maggie's big speech at the end, but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy them. :-)

I'll be thinking it over for a bit, definitely.

I agree with that "Public Service Announcement" comment. It was very preachy, but at the same time I understand. They used the popularity and likability of the two main characters to approach this subject.

But the quality of the third season seemed worse, to me. Most characters were annoying, and the "let's make everyone look totally guilty until the last episode another one appears out of nowhere" thing was getting old.
