long term potential?

I have trouble imagining the long term development of this show had it somehow managed to be popular. With both of the leads in committed relationships, there's not much direction for them to go, and it seems like the creative ideas would burn out pretty quickly. In fact, it seems the fact that the whole premise revolves around how the romantic relationships effect the friendship of the leads, and considering the two partners constitute the remaining ensemble, the whole series is practically stillborn.
