I'll skip this one

I do like sports dramas but this one just looks rather depressing and without any purpose or life to it...I get it's a true story but it just really doesn't click with me...

reply

Depressing? Are we watching the same trailer?

reply

Maybe I should rephrase that...and I actually don't really mind a lot of "depressing" movies...but, you know, maybe just flat. I know that it becomes inspiring. But still the trailer didn't click with me

reply

Maybe you mean "sad, then manipulative-inspiring?"

Some cynics might get that impression from the trailer.

But anyone who has really lived life, and experienced loss, and had to stand back up and move on with life, will probably experience the trailer (and film, presumably) much differently. I kinda felt intrigued, and moved, and I'm not a football fan at all.

Winning 151 games in a row and losing one is like a billionaire losing a 1 million dollar investment....who gives a #%%^^

It's not like they were a horrible team, you eventually have to lose, and if you think you can always win then you're an idiot

How do we bound back? Well they still have to be projected to win all their games

The trailer was loaded with so many cliches I wanted to vomit

reply

The premise is really interesting, how dose a team that has their winning streak broken bounce back?

judging by the trailer it appears one of the players gets killed and the coach has a heart attack. so im assuming its a little more than losing 1 game.

p.s. jim caviezel is a beast in count of monte cristo

correct there was a death on the football team shortly before the game that broke the De La Salle win streak. here is a write up about the game and the tragedy is mentioned at the bottom:

I guess some other bad stuff happened during the season that will also be in the movie as well as issues dealing with a fan base/players who weren't used to any losing whatsoever.

just a "cool story bro" note, I saw the trailer for this and it only caught my interest because, as luck would have it, I was at the game that ended De La Salle's streak. it was played where the Seattle Seahawks play, I just happened to be in Seattle for business and went to the game knowing about the streak.

I saw the movie and while losing the streak is a big thing, it happens early in the movie and the real story is how the team moves on, how they deal with that, and other adversities.

I don't give away too much, but I thought it was awesome. I enjoyed it as much or more than "Remember the Titans", inspiring, yes, but in a completely different way. Because this team wasn't trying to overcome racism, they had other issues to overcome, like the death of a fellow player, how to deal with an overzealous father, etc.

I recommend it. I don't recall the trailer, maybe this an example of a movie done a disservice by a bad trailer.
