one thing I didn't like about the movie (spoiler)

The running back, I know he symbolized what the team was about, and his daddy symbolized the insane public, but he was completely made up. I don't understand why they made him a central character, he should have been more of a background piece like the black kid who grew up over that season. It hurts the movie's credibility when the most important scene was completely pulled from thin air.

Only thing I didn't like - the coach's wife just happens to be sitting next to the jerk guy in the stands - now that was hokey!

What's so hard for people to realize that it says "based on a true story"??

reply

Based on a true story means you can change things little details like the game they lost, the game against Long Beach being in a different year, things of that nature. The climax of the movie being completely made up, undermines the credibility of everything we saw. Rudy, for instance, ends with him getting a sack, which actually happened. It was dramatized of course, but at least it happened. This turns into complete fiction when he kneels at the end instead of giving him a bogus record for a fake player.

Where did you find the definition of "based on a true story"? And did the definition really say, "you can change little details"?

reply

It says in the beginning of the film it was inspired by a true story. So they really don't have to follow exactly the real events.

In the words of Mitch Hedberg, "I like when they say a movie is inspired by a true story, because that's weird; it means the movie is not a true story, it was just inspired by a true story. Like, hey Mitch, did you hear the story about that lady who drove her children into the river and they all drowned? Yes I did, and it inspired me to write a movie about a gorilla!"

reply

The black kid who grew up was also made up for the movie.

reply

It's too bad they used "artistic license" to make the story. I saw the movie and thought all the people were based on real students.

Wow I guess I am dumb.

Remember the Titans (2000) probably went even further.
