Actually the personal misfortunes of one of the players really brings in to question the existance of God and Karma giving the film much needed balance. It's a true story about a school football team with strong Catholic roots - the existance of which I found disturbing - but the movie is not a promotional piece for religion. The whole moral of the tale was teamwork not God.
