The only reason there so great is because there a private high school

If de la salle were a public high school this movie would have never been made

reply

You don't think if a public high school had a 151 game winning streak that gets broken that they wouldn't make a movie about.

reply

a public high school will never have a 151 winning streak because they cant buy players like private schools can

reply

Not football, but in wrestling, Brandon High School, a public school in Florida had a 459 match winning streak snapped...And, as can be expected, a documentary was made about it by ESPN.

reply

I was going to bring that up to but decided not too. I can't remember the name of it but I thought it was well made and honestly, I felt really bad for all those kids and just felt like kicking some of the adults in the ass.

reply

Yeah, and those private schools are playing other private schools that are buying players. Point is, never losing a game for a decade or more is damn impressive.

reply

This doesn't make sense. From what I know about private schools, students pay to attend basically or their parents do. How would the school "buy" players? Plus most private schools suck. I guess your original statement is not too far off. Private schools can have big win streaks like this because the competition isn't as great as it is in public schools. So the same school can dominate their division for years.

reply

Scholarships? Incentives? What would you call it if everyone had to pay, then others were allowed to have that tuition waived?

And yet public universities in the US dominate collegiate football. Their are relatively few noteworthy private university football teams in the NCAA division 1 football.

Baylor for one, USC of course, but mostly public.

Another noteworthy football high school: Junipero Serra, also in the San Francisco Bay Area.

true but see when you go to public high school you have to go to the one close to where you live but with college you can choose any one you want.

reply

Yeah, because the private universities are usually concerned with academics...weird, right?

Bingo. The OP needs to go back to school.

Here's some help:
Their, There, and They’re
Ask yourself, what am I trying to type? If you can type they are doing something, use they’re (contraction of they are). If I am typing of a location, then use there. If I am typing about someone or a group of people, use their. If you are clever, you can use all three in a sentence:
They’re talking about a group of their friends over there.

Joe "We're authorized" Fontana: I can do this all day, Mitch. How about you?

151 game winning streak is extremely impressive regardless of whether they are public or private. Obviously no other private school has done it either.

You hit the nail on the head. I have lived in the area where De La Salle High School is located all my life and it's obvious to everyone that they recruit, which is something other nearby schools don't have the luxury of doing. NOBODY likes them at all as a result.

I have no idea who came up with the idea to produce this movie. De La Salle is nothing more than a bunch of spoiled, elitist, snobbish little bitches who act like they are better than everyone else just because their parents can afford to send them to an expensive institution.

True story: When I was in high school, there was one year when DLS's water polo team turned over the starting mats when they faced my high school's team. When a player from my school's team tried to rectify this, he was vehemently chastised. As a result, it impeded our players and they won. The couch vowed to get this resolved but I'm almost certain they were never punished as a result.

(Edited to Add: It's also embarrassing that they are touting this as an "inspirational story"...there was a sports biopic about ten years ago called Coach Carter, which is also based on a high school in my area. THAT was a truly inspirational story. Unlike DLS, that high school didn't have the recruiting ability. They merely cultivated a winning strategy through what they had, not what they could seek out)

When God made Tom Cruise, he was only joking.

My school played a team every once in a while with the same luxuries...St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, who was known for their recruiting.

I live in the San Francisco area. De LaSalle is not the only private high school with good football.

St. Francis, Mitty, Valley Christian - San Jose and Bellarmine all in San Jose are strong programs. Serra in San Mateo and Palma in Salinas are strong teams too. They don't have the type of training system De LaSalle uses. Nobody in the Bay Area has what De LaSalle has. That is why De LaSalle is so good. It is their overall system.

Next, top level athletes want to play for the best coaches no matter where they are. I know of parents who have rented apartments or up and moved their families to be in the right school district to play for a talented coach.

My high school alma mater was weak at basketball. But our arch rivals were excellent at basketball. The best basketball players in town went to that school because their basketball coach was outstanding.

My school was great at track and field. The best of the best in track and field ended up at our school. The biggest reason was we had an outstanding track and field coach.

Than shouldn't every private school be great in sports?
