Kyle Bornheiner cannot carry a show

As a lead. I think he's likable and all so I'm not slamming the guy but I watched "Worst Week" and now his latest canceled show and I don't think he can pull off a lead.

No, you're right.

I think you've nailed one of the main problems with this attempt to adapt another Britcom. Poor old Kyle is second-banana material and is rather good in that capacity, he just can't be expected to carry as much screen time as was demanded from his character. It was also true in Worst Week but there he lasted about four more episodes in before I began to get sick of that show. I was fed up by about the sixth one and here on Family Tools, it took me to less than the second ad break of episode one to see the same problems. The more time he spends on camera, the more obvious it becomes to the audience that the character he plays is too unreal for us to put up with for the whole while. Kyle needs to be the goofy guy who comes on then says or does something really goofy and scuttles away.

Could you imagine The Simpsons with Krusty the Clown in every scene of every episode doing the same schtick for 24 minutes? Goofball clown guys can't carry a show. Being a comic lead is a delicate balancing act and good old Kyle has fallen off his bike in two attempts so far.

The concept behind White Van Man / Family Tools had a rather short shelf life in any case, so let's not dump on Kyle too harshly just because he was the most obvious flaw out of the starting gate. There's a saying in journalism about don't bury the lead and this show really handicapped itself by not putting the two best characters more front and center. The father and the aunt (Leah Remini) were potentially great sitcom characters but the show's basic concept left them off camera far too much. It was just a flawed show.

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.

I thought he was great on Worst Week - that's one of the funniest shows I've seen. I think he's actually a pretty good lead and like most of the things he's been in but it sucks most of the stuff he's in gets cancelled too early.

He is a series serial killer.

He has one way to act....goofy and incompetent. He's acted like that in every show I've seen him in.

I disagree. He was the best thing about Worst Week. That should have been an Emmy nomination right there. The studio execs know his talent, otherwise they wouldn't keep allowing him to be cast as the lead. The problem is, none of these shows were great shows (Worst Week was at least decent).
