It's basically a 'Filthy Rich' remake

I find it extremely odd that virtually nobody's made the connection, but this series was essentially a retread of the 1982-83 series "Filthy Rich." Created by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and starring Delta Burke and Dixie Carter (who all went on to "Designing Women"), the show centered on the wealthy Beck family, who received a series of videotaped wills from their recently-deceased patriarch. They were forced to live together in the family home and compete in little contests (getting jobs, conceiving children, treasure hunts) to receive funds from the family trust. There were way more characters and the gag was that the selfish ones would never change (the show was a farcical spoof of prime-time soap operas like "Dallas") but the overall setup was virtually identical.

Not that I'm knocking "The Goodwin Games," just pointing out that it's "How I Met Your Mother" meets "Scavenger Hunt," "Filthy Rich"-style. It's really sad that Fox screwed with the show and burnt it off over the summer -- it was leaps and bounds better than "Ben and Kate" and "The Mindy Project."
