The show is quite well known now so i cant tell if they are in on the joke or not.

He says 90% of them have no idea what's about to happen and that sometimes they'll tell them things will be a little weird and then he'll just go completely over the top.
sharewell some people were in on it but they still are anxious to see to whats kind of torture they have to endure. Jack Black thought he knew what he was getting into but the electro shots were so unreal and painful for him that it took him out a bit. OF course they cannot do this with every guest. Jack Black has been a friend of Eric and Hannibal for a while so they knew they could get away with it without risking getting sued. Ryan Phillipe didnt take kindly to the whole ordeal for example. Seth Rogen I am not sure, he might have rolled with it but he did look a bit pissed during the whole segment.
shareReally, Phillipe was one of the ones who seemed like he was in on the joke and trying to be deadpan/play the straight man. Him actually being annoyed makes that segment even funnier.
shareI can't tell. Nick Cannon seemed genuinely annoyed and even offended by the Jesus jokes, but he could have been just acting. It was hilarious.
