Truly a fascinating case. The real Monster resembles Francis Dolarhyde more than Hannibal Lecter though. I still think that the idea of Hannibal being the Monster of Florence was quite fascinating, despite the fact that it would be impossible in real life. Hannibal was born in 1965 in the show, while the first Il Mostro murders happened in 1968. Interestingly, a suspect named Pietro Pacciani was arrested (like Inspector Pazzi said, "convicted on little but his character") and one thing that made the detectives believe he committed the crimes was the fact that he had a copy of Botticelli's La Primavera. One of the victims was found with her necklace in her mouth, much like the pagan nymph in the painting.
