Hannibal's history

We never really got a "real" explanation/flashback. For him, nor the red dragon.

I didn't mind it for Hannibal, but it kind of annoyed me that all we got of Red Dragon's backstory is a flashback of him staring at his grandma that lasted, like, 10 seconds. It's like " uuuuh.... okay. "

I think it's very clear that they wanted to keep Hannibal shrouded in mystery . He's the " Devil " of the show, if you recall, and they take that to nearly literal forms, with him appearing almost supernatural, as if he just appeared out of thin air one day to wreak havoc on the world ( Much like The Joker in The Dark Knight, as an example ) . Even with that in mind , though, there are many sprinkles of information about his past, and (obviously ) plenty of mentions of his sister, Mischa. Bryan Fuller, like many others , hated Hannibal Rising, which could also factor into why they don't include much of Hannibal's history.

I agree. We did learn there was incest in red dragons last. I didn't read the book so I'm clueless.

So the vicious cycle continues on? And she eats herself???? Or was there someone else???

The full story is these Nazis or whatever-the-*beep* come into Hannibal and Mischa's home , kill their parents, rape Mischa ( I guess, at least in the show's version, because I recall Mikkelsen mentioning something about Hannibal witnessing his sister being raped in an interview with Scott Thompson ) and slowly cook and eat her and tricked Hannibal into eating her as well .

In the novel, there is no suggestion of rape. Mischa is maybe 3 years old. The "Nazi"s are Lithuanians, working for the German Nazis. They desert and pillage, but (as I remember, memory is faulty) they are not directly responsible for the death of the parents. A bomb goes off, or a tank fires on them by mistake?. At any rate, the deserters and Hannibal and his sister are starving to death at the Lithuanian Lecter summer house in the depth of winter. They kill Hannibal's sister and turn her into soup in a big bathtub. They don't tell Hannibal what he's eating.

I understand. Thank you for telling me. -The masked bandit

Woah, that's pretty disgusting. I never knew that. Thanks for posting. Any wonder he regarded humans as pigs.

I would like a it more back story for Hannibal, but I agree "less is more". Keep him as mysterious as he is.

I suppose the soldiers raped poor little Mischa, but could have, as well, Hannibal. Terrible tragedy that is war.
