Those of you that saw the film, what did you like/dislike about it?

I was expecting something along the lines of Scary Movie 1 or 2 and I was pretty disappointed. I see a lot of others were as well. Those of you that liked it, what did you like/love about it? Those of you who hated/disliked it, what did you hate about it?

Hilarious Moments:

"This is a box my aunt brought back from kenya... it's a 9 too"
malcom screaming and leaving the house
The moving truck, "cheap truck rental" "Immediate possession"
Birthday party
Gost,
video montage uploads
"please tell your negro to back the hell off me" *cross eyes*
ignoring the kitchen issues to stay positive
the ending

Parts that I wish were shorted or left out:
Most of the sex jokes

I feel like most of the swinger, gay panic, stuffed animal, gangbang jokes could be done in any movie, and didn't belong in a movie like this unless they couldn't think of anything more relevant to a spoof on ghost shaky cam films. Kinda lazy filler, if you ask me. I don't think I laughed at any of those jokes except for the cohabitation, crucifix, and ghost rape jokes, because I found them relevant to the genre being spoofed.

Basically I think 30 minutes of the film could have been redone to be more relevant to the story. But I give it a 6.5/10 as I think it has rewatch value and some solid jokes, and reminds me of why I still say the original Scary Movie was a pretty good spoof, unlike the crap Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer turn out today. This film actually had a storyline, even though there was a few instances of story continuation errors.

I didn't like the fact that the people making this movie didnt care to make it good.

Just one example, the lazy writing. Kisha in one of the early scenes remarks that she hasn't been sleeping well the past few days because of noises in the house. We are then told several times that this is her first night in the house. Huh?

I could pick this movie the hell apart, but my point is that this whole movie feels like a money grab with no real effort put forth.

@laballatician.....I would suggest.....that since you have all the answers as to what makes box office gold.....that you write, produce and direct your own movies. When they come out, let us know so we can see how very perfect you are.

i bet whatever film he made, no matter how cheap and sh!t it would still be better than this abomination of a film

If you can pick this movie apart, that was not a good one lol

BTW, I LOVED Scary Movie and many parts of Scary Movie 2.

reply

Likewise, I loved(and still love) Scary Movie, and I thought Scary Movie 2 had some hilarious parts to it, so I was hoping this one would be similar, but I thought it was lazy and ultimately suffered character issues. It had it's moments(the hospital dog run in the opposite direction, the demon spelling ghost 'gost', and imo the anal rape was funny, etc) but mostly it was just..like they had some of a movie and stretched it out to feature length. Some of the jokes were repeats, and some just went on far, far too long.

Gags that initially made me laugh(tombstone dog, ghost hunters, stuffed animal sex) went on so very long that I stopped laughing roughly a minute before they ended. And some of the obvious jokes were taken in a direction that was painfully unfunny..for example, when she stands up in the middle of the night the first time, instead of having her do any number of the dozens of things she could have done that would have been funny, they play rap music and have her dance? That is something that you'd expect in Date Movie, not this one.

It's actually kind of sad, because there are elements here that were very similar to Scary Movie 1+2 in humor tone, but they are few and far between in exchange for stereotypes, stretched out jokes, and really lazy "joke" telling like the "suck it" lip tattoo or the the EVER UNFUNNY Nick Swardson character.

reply

It's funny Swardson seemed funny in the trailer but it wasn't funny at all in the actual movie to me.

Good question OP.

Well I brought this movie a couple of weeks ago from Wal Mart for 19 bucks. I think I got my money worth. As soon as I put the movie in I was rolling. I will admit just like in the real movie how they had slow start getting to the scary parts it was kind of like that with A Haunted House. It was funny it they went along with the story line I thought they might mix some other movie in the story line but they kept it Paranormal Activity.

What I liked least...well the pool scene was necessary I didn't really laugh much at that part it was a little dry for me. It did have a lot of sex scenes in the movie but they were stupid funny.

I was actually pretty disappointed, I disliked that the film took from Scary Movie 2 in parts(Having Sex With Ghost, Smoking With Ghost, etc.) as well as dragging parts way too long. I laughed at some points in the movie later on but it definitely started bad. Overall, I thought it was definitely worse than other Wayans Brothers efforts(Scary Movie 1&2, White Chicks, Don't Be A Menace, Little Man) but I thought it was better than Dance Flick. Also, Seeing that Shawn Wayans or Keenen Ivory Wayans had nothing to do with A Haunted House makes me think who are the really funny Wayans Brothers. 5/10 for me.

I actually thought the scenes with kisha farting in bed along with Malcolm having sex with a bear was funny.

reply

It was a bad idea to spoof a movie with a not-so-great plot*, because it started to feel overly-long at the 20-minute mark. Also, the jokes were poorly conceived, staged and delivered. Finally, Marlon Wayans was afwul.

*P.A. is great because of how scary it is.

reply

For me it was mostly just Essence Askins that did if for me, all her lines were just delivered perfectly! "Uh uh *beep* finish your plate" "Its called Entity.... Malcolm, is it a crime, to sleep with no panties on?" "Who you calling B!tch". Its a really bad movie, but I actually find myself constantly watching it, so I guess its a guilty pleasure kind of thing.

I like that it wasn't as gross as the Scary Movie series. Sometimes the Scary Movies go over the top with body fluids and other stuff. This one had some fart jokes but in general the jokes were more verbal and some slapstick. (Love the part where they're acting nonchalant while the demon is wrecking the kitchen.)

I like Marlon Wayans.

I like the references to the other horror movies, especially that Blair Witch in the corner -- oh, wait, no he's just taking a piss.

I like that the end was creepy as well as funny.
