Is LND good?

I have never seen The Phantom of the opera (musical or movie) but this year have listened to TPHOTO soundtrack and enjoyed it.

I am thinking of listening to the LND soundtrack and then perhaps seeing the movie (of phantom and of LND).

But it seems there's mixed views on the follow up, but I personally think both look good. I'm basically a phantom virgin.

It isn't good. Love Never Dies contradicts everything in the original story, and they make Raoul out to be a mad drunkard with no heart. But the songs are lovely; it's the story that is awful. What was ALW smoking?

Wrong!!!! It's wonderful!!! Very good!!!

NOOOOO!

Also, I would recommend seeing the 25th Anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall over the movie, it's a stage version that's taped but it's very good, much better singing in my opinion.

I almost spit up my tea with that one,LMAO - I love it and will be using it, Butler took my Phantom virginity - I had been "hearing" the Angel since 86 though but never "saw" him till 04, but for the other versions I am just seeing most of them for the first time as well.

Hi! I have been a Phantom Phan for years now. I have seen the ALW production 5 separate times (2 Broadway, 2 Philly, 1 Vegas). I watched the 2004 film 5 times in the theater (and own it). I own the Lon Cheney, Claude Reigns, Robert Enlgund films as well as the alt musical version with David Staller. and read the original book. I also love watching the Phantom Reviewer on Youtube. So I think I have a pretty well rounded knowledge of Phantom. Sure, when 'Love Never Dies' was in the works, I wasn't too happy. Like many fans, I was irked at the idea of a sequel. I don't like when characters are changed and stuff is altered....I guess I just don't like change. Fear of the unknown and all that.

But a year ago I finally watched the Aussie version and was blown away by how awesome it was. The story itself was utter fan fiction and I still have mixed feelings about it, but the music and staging is so haunting and beautiful it's hard to hate the production as a whole. For whatever reason, a song got stuck in my head and it got so bad that I had to re watch the show again last night. And I think I enjoyed it even more than the first time around. If you get a chance to see it; check it out.

My thought on the story is just that it is a 'what if' story. It doesn't have to be 'canon' if people don't want it. I think of it like the movie 'Hook.' An alternate 'what if' film about Peter Pan growing up. It didn't ruin the original story for me or anything and acts as a great entry should someone want something different from the normal story. LND may not have the same impact the original had; but I am happy it was made. I would love to see a Broadway version come so I can see the production live.

"Till I hear you Sing" Is probably my favorite number in the show.

Are there things I would change? sure. I would love to see all the alterations ALW made for the different productions (I love all that behind the scenes stuff) but that is for another discussion. All in all, check it out. If you have already listened to the original album, then you know the basic story and won't miss anything if you see the film. But if you get a change, check out the Albert Hall (or 2004) movie. The original show is brilliant and just plain magic.

Ooops! sorry, got on a roll there. as I said, I just rewatched the LND films last night and I just have to talk Phantom, lol

It looks like there are two camps here; one that loves it and one that hates LND. I would say it's good, but you would need to watch POTO before watching this to understand who everyone is.
