why is 4.7 with 75 voters?

do I see here...maybe... prejudice Homophobic, conservative voters who didn't even saw the movie and only judge the movie because what they see in the trailer or the pictures?
All the Spanish critics said that is a very funny movie. I'm sure it will not be 4.7 for a long time

reply

The film was released yesterday in Spain, and the most people that have seen it say it's awful.

reply

I don't know which or how many critics you've read, but the movie is actually pretty awful, regardless how many gay characters there are.

reply

Indeed the gay characters are the best part of the movie (the only part I liked is when they sing "I'm so excited")
Carlos Areces and Raúl Arévalo are great. They was the reason for me to see the movie.

reply

I'm gay (and out) and I'm avoiding the film due to the trailer, reviews and word-of-mouth...

And I normally love most of Almodovar's outings, to be honest.

reply

ok so I have to admit that I am connected to Almodovar's page on Facebook and the reviews I saw were mostly those selected by Them. But I asked this because it was strange seeing 4,7 so early in the votes when obviously no one saw the movie.
Now is 5.5 with 745 voters so now I can see that maybe is not that good. I didn't see the movie but I will and i will get my own opinion, As always.

Maybe this is what it deserves?
I watched it tonight and I was rather disappointed. I won't tell you much more, because you did not see it yet. Just, most of the jokes are not really funny - too exaggerated - and some of them are vulgar and disgusting (and I'm not the prudish type). Almodovar used to be so refined and subtle in his earlier movies, so touchy and witty and funny and that's exactly what I liked about his movies. This movie has nothing of it.

You're kidding, right?

"Dark Habits", "Pepi, Luci, Bom", "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" refined and subtle?

This film is actually a return to Almodovar's movie-punk roots, although with rather higher production values.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

reply

I don't consider myself homophobic, I have gay friends and relatives, and I have seen and loved practically all of Almodovar's movies(not so keen on Kika or Broken Embraces)

However, I was extremely disappointed with I'm So Excited. Without revealing too much to those who haven't seen it, let's just say it is not funny at all (I don't think that the discussion of whether men or women are better at giving blow-jobs was particularly funny, he missed a few good opportunities there)

What I saw was a succession of easy cliched jokes that would have been funny 30 years ago, or maybe they're still funny to a teenager, certainly not to an experienced adult.

And also let's not forget that the only suggested (not even shown) sex in the movie is between heterosexual people. So hardly a homophobic issue.

My point is, there is a lot wrong with this movie, and being conservative has nothing to do with it.

This sort of patronising ageism is more disgusting than anything Almodovar might have put in this film.

Actually the co-pilot got a BJ from one of the stewards, but maybe you missed that...

In addition, the pilot and his steward lover emerge from the lavatory after some messy hanky panky. As for the "not even shown" comment, the actress/dominatrix was clearly shown wildly humping the hit man on the floor of the cabin. They were clothed, but the sex was depicted. Also shown having sex were the honeymooning couple and the virgin having her way with the drugged economy class passenger. Pretty hard to take someone's comments seriously when they can't even accurately describe the film.

the rating should at least be around 6.0. it wasn't great but there's a lot more going on than the easy gay jokes. and hell, it was better than 'volver' which is usually quite well liked!

I didn't think it was awful, but it wasn't one of his better ones. I'm sure I'll forget it in a couple of days, unlike his earlier films and especially The Skin I Live In.

And it definitely was not better than Volver.

The film was mostly about sex, whether gay or straight. The biggest question seemed to be whether someone was bisexual or not. It really didn't have much substance, and I kept thinking how ridiculous it was that the flight crew were drinking and taking drugs when they had to prepare for an emergency landing.

I did laugh at some scenes but not too many.

And all the pieces matter (The Wire)

I thought it was a good Almodovar film. It's an offbeat comedy similar to his earlier films, mixed with the experience he's gained throughout the years. A light but satisfying comedy, though I hope he'll return to his more serious stuff for the next movie.
