Pedro's weakest film

I'm a big fan of his work. Seen most of his movies. He's an excellent director and one of the greatest still making films today. I've never been disappointed by any of his work.

That is until I watched I'm So Excited. After watching the trailer when it leaked months ago, I wasn't expecting to be watch his magnum opus. It's not a horrible film by any means. There were some amusing scenes and happenings, but it didn't grasp my attention, interest, or funny bone enough for me to consider it great like his others. It's kind of a let down that this is the film he made after one of his greatest films (if not his greatest), The Skin I Live In.

I felt the same way about Maliack's To The Wonder. Oh well.

Not one of his best but it was fun. Not all his films are great, he's made a few dodos like Matador and Labyrinth of Passion. The Skin I Live In his greatest, I don't think so. That's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown his probably his best comedy, other than maybe Dark Habits.

I liked Matador a lot. Haven't seen Labyrinth of Passion.

matador is one of his best films out of his earlier ones i think. but yes skin i live in is for sure one of his best(if not the best) and i think he just needed to do something light like im so excited after making a super serious dark disturbing film like skin.

I agree wholeheartedly with you sleepingbag.

Comparing a comedy to a drama is like comparing one cliche to another. Only thing they have in common is that they're both cliches.

it's different. i like the campiness of it. it's entertaining in its own way.

After reading so many bad reviews I was actually surprised how much I liked it, I found it very surreal and funny with loads of darkly humourous lines.

I agree, this film was all over the place. It just wasn't very funny and the dialogue was repetitive. The acting was committed and I wish the whole film was as wonderfully engaging as the dance scene. He should have gone all-out farcical ridiculousness than middle-of-the-road, which is the worst place to be

Also, the date-rape of that passenger and the guys wife is pretty unnerving how they frame it. It's 100% fine to make a joke about rape, but if the joke isn't funny or doesn't make a good point it just ends up as awkward and discomforting

To be fair, Almodovar stated that I'm So Excited should only be seen as a very light comedy. So audiences shouldn't take I'm So Excited seriously, its just for laughs.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

Totally agree with previous post. And I can only assume PA chose to do something lighter after the very dark tone of his previous film.

I don't think there's anything extraordinary about me except this passion for the truth.
