Do they want people to watch this?

In the US it got exactly 1 showing. For those of us without a TV, it's unavailable online -- not on Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, Amazon or similar outlets, so far as I can tell. And there's no word of a video release forthcoming. Do they want this to go unseen? I know I'd love to see it -- anyone know any legal way to watch it or when it will be available commercially?

It was a fantastic show. It is a BBC (Scotland) production. Sure to be on a DVD soon. Can't wait till the 2nd half to find out the "secrets". Critics are raving, even got written up in the NYTimes. THe Wall Street Journal gave it a big "yes" - "The Widow Was A Spy" - google it.

Laban really likes it to come on a DVD. When living in Sweden we have no possibility to see those BBC productions

I'm with you, Mastadge. I just saw the commercials, set up the "record" and found out it's the second half. Pffft.

reply

Me too - set the DVR to record both episodes and just checked -- only the 2nd episode was recorded - must be some glitch with the cable system. Double pffft. I guess we can hope someone is listening and they put it out on DVD.

reply

I've also been searching for the episodes online, unsuccessfully :( If anyone finds it, do please post a link!

reply

I think I am in the lucky viewer group.. Saw both episodes. Really good. I am sure it will be on DVD or rerun on Sundance soon. Keep checking. I am surprised Sundance got it. It is more like a PBS thing. Glad it got one SAG nom. Did not tape tho'.

When you post here, look at the top, above where you reply or post.
"Link" is useful. So is the B, for "bold" and the I, for "italics".
Try "color" for fun.

ETA: both the links on this thread are bad. The one you posted works, but the show isn't available to watch on it anymore. The link from below just goes to the IMDb message boards.

ETA: I found several postings of it on YouTube, but haven't had time to watch it yet. One goes to one of those outside links, and another is in a tiny screen within a huge bubble screen, which bites, and is why I didn't watch it before bed last night.

"Fire bad. Tree pretty."

We were able to record both episodes and we just finished watching it. It is a top notch spy mystery, the acting is very good, especially Ms. Rampling, who reminds me of Lauren Bacall. The only thing I did not like was the 1948 Chevy convertible that Eva was supposed to be driving in 1941. It annoys me when directors ignore details like that.

I thought the ending was "not what I expected"... so therefore it was a good ending.

reply

It was OK. It's a so-so film of a so-so book, no more, no less.

reply

Why don't you buy a tv? they are fairly popular nowadays.

Seriously I am sure it will be on dvd soon, when you get the dvd what are you going to view it on?

I don't get people who don't have a tv,there must be things you would like on American tv?

I am watching the first episode now,it is pretty good so far.

Personally, ever since I finally got a computer several years ago, I hardly watch anything "on TV" anymore. Once in a while, if I have a big blockbuster/action movie to watch, I'll hook up the laptop to my big plasma and pump the sound out through the stereo. But that's pretty rare. And all I would really need is a monitor, since I'm not even using the tuner, or even the speakers. Anyway, Restless sounds pretty good, so I'm going to check out part 1 right now. :)

reply

I have a decent sized TV and I still choose to watch stuff on a smaller PC screen haha. Both have good sound though that's what I care the most about. A few shows like this excluded(they are very rare), I still have a far larger selection.

(sorry I meant to reply to catmandew)

Saw part one on the BBC - found it rather rambling and could heve been trimmed by ten minutes, but that's just my opinion.

When you can't get it legally, you can get it illegally...

Do you really think the company will sue YOU because of a download of what doesn't exist? :P

reply

My reasons for not pirating movies have nothing to do with fear of reprisal. But thanks for the suggestion.

The Beeb makes these programs for those that pay the licence fee, and it is available to those that pay a licence fee, and you have no tv therefore it makes sense someone without a licence will not be able to view it, and perhaps in the future it might change but for now that is that.

reply

The OP doesn't pay a license fee because the OP lives in the US. And the program was a co-production with the Sundance Channel, a US channel.

BBC Media Centre
Restless is an Endor production in association with Sundance Channel for BBC One. It is produced by Hilary Bevan Jones and Paul Frift and directed by Edward Hall. The executive producers are William Boyd, Matthew Read for the BBC and Christian Vesper for Sundance Channel.
