I thought it was better than Donnie Darko. Certainly a lot less convoluted. This was the movie I wanted Donnie Darko to be.

That's blasphemy! It was a good movie but nowhere near as good as DD.

It's not blasphemy; it's opinion. I personally think "White Rabbit" is the superior film.

I'm with nte1igentwon on this one! I'd like to point out that personal taste is relative, and we all have our likes and dislikes for all sorts of reasons. That said - I feel DD is a multi-faceted masterpiece. I do admit that DD was pushing the limit on simultaneous sub-plots competing for the focus of the movie, but I also maintain that it pulled it off. I'm awfully biased about the soundtrack, too. Not the Director's Cut, though. The Director's Cut managed to nearly ruin the entire movie, and the entire soundtrack was swapped out.

Still - White Rabbit was good. Britt Robertson was excellent, and who doesn't love Sam Trammell? He was an absolutely believable scumbag dad. I found myself muttering about him indignantly, and then in other moments feeling shocked when his actions out-did crummy actions he'd done before.

White Rabbit is a great character study, but I just can't agree that it begins to surpass the philosophical mind-trip of Donnie Darko.

I agree with the two users above me. I have a less admirable view of White Rabbit due to what to me seemed like a bland film lacking depth. I make the claim separate of any comparison to DD. White Rabbit to me seemingly gave away the plot of story early on and lacked nuance or any caveat to suggest that all is not what it seems and that I could have just stopped watching 15 minutes in. The implication here is not that the film should have had a "twist" but the transparency caused the film in the end to be underwhelming. I was kept interested by the film but being the unofficial "brother film" of DD it was disappointing.

i have no idea why you would compare it to DD. they are completely different stories other than a young teenage boy with mental health issues and a symbolic rabbit... but VERY different approaches. Completely different characters and dynamics and overall stories. Completely different cinematogrophy and writing, dialogue...

I think it closes your mind to compare movies!

I love them both as different stories. WR I found a bit predictable but still really enjoyed it! DD was a whole other journey and has been my favourite movie for the last ten years!

Cool.

You're right -- they're too different to compare. "Donnie Darko" is science fiction with a high school milieu while "White Rabbit" is edgy psychological drama with a high school setting. The former is creative, but not very compelling whereas the latter is gritty realistic with an artistic flair and quite compelling.
