The writing was clever and well constructed. the characterisation was very good and very believable.
so what has happened ? series 3 after 2 episodes is slapstick and simply not worth watching. what a pity.
Although I'm still sticking with it because I want to know how it all ends, I agree series 3 is not as good as the first two. I think the problem is less of a focus on Laura and Jamie's relationship. That's why I watched the first series 'oh god what will they do??'. Now it's about all the 'family' characters and they just arn't as gripping as a story. Bring back the Laura/Jamie tension!!

Yes I agree! Bingewatching the series online now I felt the same. Did some fast forwarding during series 3. Hope #4 will get more back on track with as Eoweniel says- some more Jamie/Laura tension and less slapstick.
shareI think series 3 ended quite well with the whole Laura/Jamie/Isobel triangle, but you might be right. They should probably tone some of the more whack comedy (Isobel in her Snow White costume was going off the rails a bit. Any sane man would have literally run out her door at that point!) and get back to the "dramady" fell of the first two seasons.
sharethere was a serious undercurrent to the first two series as it was believable and funny at the same time. it actually made you think at times about the issues. series three went into farce and was frequently unbelievable.
I wonder if it had the same script writer(s) and how large an audience it had in comparison with one and two ? certainly I had it on for one eye but actually had my laptop on too.
