What did the son say to the reporter when they where on the street?

reply

To print that Elaine was going to run for president against the incumbent.

reply

Was that a good or bad move?

reply

It will effect her campaign negatively. Her campaign will likely fail anyway since she is running against the incumbent (the person currently in office), whom is rarely ever defeated in re-election. What he doesn't want is to do is have to go through the election campaign process at all because of the hell it puts on their family. So he wants to kill her campaign early, but he doesn't want her to know it was him so he asked the reporter to find another confirmation source. Basically, good move for him, bad move for her.

reply

It sounded like the reporter was being loyal to her when she said she would hold off printing as long as she could.

reply

She never said that. She said she couldn't print it without confirmation. The son couldn't give confirmation because he doesn't want his mother to know it was him.
