Not crazy about JT

I can't imagine having a son like this. The mother is right to wash her hands of this guy who likes to play "poor me"

reply

he's a complete loser, good for nothing

from what we can gather by episode 4, his family had supported him all the way

when he's frustrated, he goes for drugs

when he needs money, he feeds off people who love him

perhaps he's better off with brain damage or something, otherwise people related to him are just going to be in trouble just trying to help him

reply

Could not have said it better my self. Love your analysis of JT.

reply

On the other hand, the character is spot on....these are the same destructive and manipulative techniques that many drug addicts use on their families. And, yeah, there is usually a point where even family members reach their breaking point, and just wash their hands.

reply

Tj is the most annoying character in the show, just because he's the first gay kid who came out in the white house doesn't give him a blank check to be an reckless moron. Lots of people have had way worse issues than him (including surviving rapes, starvation, plagues, etc...) and they come out because they want to, meanwhile TJ is whining all the time and it works out fine for him, why would he move a finger to get better if somebody always throws him a lifesaver even when he can survive alone?

Honestly whoever feels sympathy for him just because he was a public figure and came out of the closet when he was young and felt a lot of pressure, please feel free to travel more around the world and listen to people's stories struggling with way worse things and figure that TJ had it way easy and still is a spoiled brat.

And then we have this *beep* here, one of those who think "There are people who have worse problems in the world so your problem is invalid."

Never said it was invalid, just saying that TJ has had a fairly easy life and the only thing he had to struggle was coming out of the closet as a public figure WITH TOTAL SUPPORT FROM HIS FAMILY! If his family would have felt ashamed or turned their backs on him, that's a whole different story, and this is not the case, so TJ is still a whiny bitch and you have a narrow vision of the world if you think the man has a tragic life.

reply

Oh, I don't think I'm the one with the narrow world-view when you can't even accept that some people strugglle more with some things and others more with other things. No one's weak for hurting, even if it's by something that might not have hurt another person the same amount or the same way.

I hope you are not a parent. You are missing a compassion gene. TJ (not JT) has more issues than you can imagine. I can't imagine what it would be like growing up as a child in the white house, being watched all the time and on top of that trying to hide for so long that you are gay. Only to be outed publicly & humiliated by the right wing nazis. Drugs were/are an escape for him. He even tried to kill himself. So, yeah, just washing your hands of a son because he isn't coping with the *beep* public life you pushed upon him is a great parenting technique. Hope your kids end up with more love & compassion you have.

reply

Even worse, he's just become a very tedious character.

reply

It's not pretty to watch and taking the attitude of just turn your back might be the easy knee jerk reaction. But if you've ever known anyone with a substance problem then you know that this guy is nothing unusual. And if it's a loved one then just washing your hands of it is not something you would do easily.

But I agree as a tv character, you kind of want him to get his *beep* together, and quick. He's gorgeous and comes from a powerful, rich family. He has everything at his disposal but can't seem to make it work. Sad to say, but I know a lot of gay guys in NYC and DC that fit this description. Thank god we're entering a new phase where gays don't spend their teens and twenties backing themselves into healthy sink holes like this guy.

reply

Wow. All of you who hate him for having the problems he has are seriously *beep* up. Also, you don't have to be crazy about him, but get his name right, yeah, or don't bother making threads (actually... please don't bother to make threads.)

Honestly I find TJ to be the most interesting character on the show. I hope he survives and yes in the end gets himself together, but I wouldn't mind it taking a lot longer. His character reminds me a little of Andrew in Desperate Housewives or Justin in Brothers and Sisters, both became infinitely less interesting after they cleaned up their acts.

But yes it would be hell to actually be his family. And I can understand washing your hands of him, but not at the very moment of a stressful evening for him, which can help him get back on track and after he is sober for a while. He will only fall deeper. I can understand washing your hands when he is there drudged up and begging for your money, again. But he wasn't at a low point and he was trying to get better. His whole family ganging up on him is so destructive at that point.

I agree. He is very interesting and I don't want him to get better quickly either because what's the point without allt drama.

Looks like they are at a funeral in next week's preview. Hopefully it's Annie after she finds out her fiancee cheated or JT overdosed again. Either way, both of these characters being gone would improve the show 100%.

reply

I hope Annie grows a pair and walks away so she can have a life she's more. Indie table with. That way Douglas can take up with Susan and have more guilt free sex.

reply

i thought his character was spot on a real addict. and in the end we see how he started to understand, after reaching bottom, that he had cost enough pain to his family and it may be time to get over his condition.

reply

Oh my Christ I love how many people can comment on a character but can't even get his name right it's TJ NOT JT.
