Thoughts/Questions on Valerian

1. The CGI is amazing. Beautiful. I loved all the aliens, especially the people of Mül.

2. Was Big Market all virtual reality? Or did they actually like teleport their consciousness to another world or something?

3. That pleasure paradise whatever... Completely out of place and awkward. Actually, get rid of everything from when Laureline touches the butterfly to when they get out of the dump, and that would make the movie so much better.

4. The converter creature thing reminded me of the Niffler from Fantastic Beasts. Not quite sure why. But it was strange to have a creature that made so many copies of whatever it ate... Wouldn't it be better to just have some machine do it? Except that Mül wasn't very technologically advanced.

5. The three all-knowing little aliens were oddly cute. Kind of annoying, but somewhat amusing.

My wife, brothers and I saw it on Saturday. We were very pleased. The tone is different from most space opera, which may explain why many don't like it. (As well as, in my opinion, poor marketing). I agree that the pleasure room sequence could have been removed or at least abbreviated. Bubble was interesting, but she/he came and went so quickly she seems a bit superfluous.

My family and I enjoyed it as well; we also happened to see it on Saturday, lol.

I think it was more the acting and marketing than the tone that were problematic, but still I don't think it deserves the hate the Internet is piling on it. The tone didn't seem that different to me, tbh.

I feel like Rhianna was just thrown in to have a popular celebrity face, but her character did seem superfluous. Maybe it would have been better if they didn't meet Bubble at a brothel (?) and if the character stayed around longer.

By 2) no, they explain it as being another dimension. However, all the tourists were only sort of operating an avatar there, meaning they could not be hurt as they walked around. Our hero though had that box that sort of open a "wormhole" to this dimension so he could stick his arm in there with an actual gun (not just a harmless avatar gun) ... and this is why he runs for his life, because the box is stuck and so he would risk his arm if they would catch him, but only his arm..

Ah. Guess I missed that somehow. Still weird and a little confusing, but oh well. Thanks for explaining!
