Cant Feel Sympathy

Cos I just know majority of these people believed they were better than others on govt programs..now that it's their turn, Im supposed to now care?

Same ones screaming against "entitlement programs", siding with Republicans..now they see how beneficial these programs are. Govt p-aid that couple's electricity bill..how many people are that lucky?
Hopefully this situation has changed the minds of many..although I doubt it

That's the meaning of sympathy and empathy - being able to relate due to personal experience. There are things you know now that you didn't 5-6 years ago, but no one chides you for it - I hope! Because no one should. I hope that you'll be able to care when it happens to you or your loved ones. Because no one wants this for themselves, and I don't want this for anyone. But, if we don't care, it goes unchecked and will continue...

FYI, most of these people clearly didn't live in Portland itself (I live here)---but outlying, Republican areas like Clackamas and Gresham. Oh, it was also quite apparent the people whose utility bills were paid had substance abuse problems.

Also, what the 211 lady (BTW, my company's tried to work with them, they're super snobby) about there being no jobs, even minimum wage jobs is patently untrue. There's no shortage of crappy, low paying jobs here----just better ones are scarce.
