Awful

Really bad script with completely unlikeable characters. It's not a good vampire movie. I hated it and feel like I wasted my time watching it and should have walked halfway through. You have been warned. It's bad and not in a so bad it's good kind of way, in a so bad I wish the movie was burned kind of way. Burned, nuked, used for cat litter. I wouldn't even use it as a coaster for a soda can. It's bad.

Yea, an absolute POS. Had to quit 50 minutes in, should have bailed earlier all warning bells were ringing right from the start. It certainly appeared to be dubbed with English voiceovers, which was very annoying and distracting on top of the terrible script and the terrible acting. Definitely not worth a watch not even as a time killer.

reply

I think its just that, a time killer. The script was terrible, the acting was really bad, but dont know if that was because it was dubbed over or not. The characters and setting was just not believable or likeable. The cinematography and locations seemed to be good and the lighting wasnt bad. I dont know if more of a budget would have saved this film but I feel like it wouldnt have, definitely a B movie with good intentions.

reply

Lol this was dubbed?! That explains a LOT.

They had to, because the actors were Chilean.

reply

I can forgive bad acting sometimes if a script is good. But this was just awful and the characters were terrible. And I was like, what is the point of having vampires if they have no real super strength and the only real thing that happens is they burn in the sun. It was just awful. The lead vampire was such a weak, deflated ball of a character, constantly getting beat up by humans. And he didn't even care. And the ending was so blahhhhhhhhhh. Really bad script.

reply

Yeah, I am relatively forgiving of new horror movies as I expect them all to be crap, and I relatively enjoyed The Babadook, It Follows, We Are Still Here and a couple others. This is definitely the worst modern horror film I have seen in at least 2 years. I know I have seen some really bad recent horror movies, but this one has definitely been overall the worst one. Boring acting, not even bad, I would have welcomed bad acting, terrible and unlikable characters, lack of any explanations, poor script and overall boring. Seriously I would not waste my time unless you are a completest. The cinematography looked good, that's about it. I also agree the movie seemed dubbed, or a few characters in particular seemed dubbed. Lowest rated movie in a long time, 4 out of 10.

That's because the actors are Chilean.

Inane, pointless plot; I'm not sure why this was even made. I guess the writer/director has no one to tell him when he has come up with absolute crap. This isn't 'new' horror, it's the same no-name, no discernable point, D-list junk that cable movie channels used to air at four in the morning in the early '80s. I didn't even pay to see this POS, and I want my money back.

I gambled that maybe some of you were wrong, and I lost. Don't make the same mistake I did, chirrin; rewatch Flash Gordon, or something. Learn to knit. Let this movie go.

Apparently Roth fell heads over heels in love with a South American model who wants really bad to be an actress, so Eli puts her in every film he shoots, not only that, but also finances any script, regardless of quality, his wife's Chilean friends send her, as long as she has a role in the film.
This movie is crap, don't waste your time.

??Agreed??

100,000% nailed it. Roth nailed the Chilean & you nailed the resulting influx of Chilean films produced by him. Hope they get better at making films - and quick! So far this has been going on a few years now and judging by this film, it's not going so well.

All of that being said, I saw "Knock, Knock" and I loved Roth's wife in it! She's a monster for sure.

Film is ok. Not as bad as it's being perceived. It worked well enough to keep me engaged, although there are areas that turned out very weak with fleshing out the movie. Main reason I watched was because of the young boy. He needs to improve his acting chops but he lured me into watching the motion picture.

reply

I agree. The people complaining about the film seem like the type who have never seen a naturalistic movie before. It isn't a horror film, it is a character film that just happened to have some monsters. I think the kid was the only one who wasn't over-dubbed too.

reply

This is in no way a character film though. Those have well written characters with interesting back stories whose actions/motivations make sense because we get to know their nuances so well. This has absolutely none of that. It's a horror film whose writer/director had no idea what he was doing, and was given some money despite not having any talent. It's poorly written, badly acted, terribly edited, directed as a drama, and has no point. This is exactly what people are talking about when they mention wading through the crap on netflix. The overdubs alone are enough to make you roll your eyes, add in everything else and the F rating from both users and critics makes sense...

reply

No, it really wasn't bad until the end. As usual, the ending ruined an otherwise decent movie.

I liked the idea of the story, kind of a realistic spin on vampire mythology. with that said I do wish the lead character wasn't SO human all the time. Every now and then just appearing somewhere, not knowing for sure if it's vampire speed or we just didn't notice him, that would've been nice. Just give the viewers the ides that maybe there is some truth in the myth.
