Who else gasped (spoiler)

... when it was revealed her boyfriend and father were having an affair? Nowhere did I see that coming 

reply

Not to be flippant, but I burst out laughing. I can't explain why, it was just an immediate reaction.

You would have gotten choked lol.

If you have ever seen Araki's work, it was pretty obvious as soon as she approached the door. Kids d of ruined the film for me. I saw no foreshadowing for it, it was simply for shock value.

reply

Oh, please, "shock value". The foreshadowing was all through the film. Kat's boyfriend, a 17 year old boy, didn't seem to ever want to have sex with her when he had plenty of opportunities. The father, though his wife may have been loony, also didn't care to engage with her. I won't say I saw the twist coming, but it wasn't a shock when it did.

It also wasn't just for shock value, it was the motive for the father killing the mother. You make it sound like Araki just threw it in there so he could get some homosex in the film.

reply

I meant showing it in that fashion was shock value. Yes, if you have seen more than 10 films in your life, you knew she was in the freezer and that her husband put her there.

I assumed her boyfriend was nailing her mother, which I think Araki wanted us to think. Regardless, I think Woodley did a hell if a job, I wish more people knew about it. I came for her nudity and stayed for the truth of her performance.

reply

I gasped, too. I had figured out most of it early on, but not that.

reply

Yes, I was expecting what the setup implied, that the mother and the boyfriend were having an affair, not the father and the boyfriend! An interesting twist.

reply

I did too! Though it was a bit too random for me when I think about it now.

reply

I felt like they crammed too much into the ending instead of slowly revealing it all, so it made the movie worse than it would have been. The movie was quite slow, then out of nowhere, on all the good parts, they spend like 2 seconds each on them.

reply

Didn't really have time to gasp, since it all happened so quickly... I was still reeling from the fact that the dad actually DID kill the mom; I believed him when he said he didn't know where she was! ... and then the movie quickly reveals he was lying, and what he did with the body, etc... There were a lot of shocks on top of one another - but I was very surprised, yes. 

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

No, I usually don't see these things coming but this time, to me, it was obvious. You could hear someone was obviously having sex in there, and since the mother was not a parcipitant and it was strongly implied that the boyfriend was involved in some way, the reasonable explanation to me was that it was him and the dad, and her witnessing this would be the Dad's motive to kill her. Prior to that I never suspected he was involved at all, but after Kat's return for break, it's made pretty clear where the story is going.

Wildcattin'...Wildcattin'. Pow! I'm gonna go.
