A very British movie?.

Critics, well those that aren't being a bit sniffy about the film, have described it as a very British movie-well, yes it is, and all the better for it. Pierce Brosnan comes over very well as a man in the later stages of middle age who is just starting to suffer the bodily breakdowns that come to us all at that age; Emma Thompson's character is no spring chicken either but she outshines everybody else in the film; Celia Imrie has a great time, as does the wonderful Timothy Spall who steals almost every scene he appears in; Louise Bourgoin is gorgeous (I thought I recognized her-she was Adele Blanc-Sec!); Tuppence Middleton is also gorgeous, but sadly gets to do little more than smile at the camera.

It's a sort of middle-age heist movie and is not a slam, bang, in your face kind of thing, but it is well written, perfectly cast and very well played. People of a certain age (yes, that means YOU) will thoroughly enjoy it-most others will as well!.

Here's a tip, but not a spoiler, watch out for the bit where Tim Spall explains why he has a real gun and not a replica one-I laughed out loud, but maybe that's just me!.

Brilliant post!

I have seen a lot of very serious reviews around this film, which is just silly. It's meant to be a fun film and it certainly is just that. I enjoyed it as well! :)

I call that a brilliant post as well.
I said the same thing on the board for 'A Long Way Down', Brosnan is making these middle-aged dad roles his own and this film was just further proof. Loved the little Bond references that were in there too. One of the best moments though was Spall and Imrie's characters walking into the airport and it's annoying me that I can't remember what song was playing (some rap song) because that was why it was so funny, that and the bad-ass slo-mo walk they had going.
It's funny though, I saw this and 'The Other Woman' on the same day, fully expected this to be better and was more than right, but on IMDb this has 755 votes and that has 17,530 (with the ratings being 6.2 and 6.6 respectively).
I'm not one of your "people of a certain age" though.

Thanks, I saw this and was wondering how british it was.
Definitely gonna skip it now.

I am about to watch it in a few moments. Strangely although the trailer appears quite British, the film was made only by French companies, financed solely with French money. It was strange to see France alone was the production country.

Fanboy : a person who does not think while watching.

My husband and I, both thoroughly American, loved this. Whether it's fully British or not, those of us at a certain age understand those little winces, aches and yearning for some adventure. Plus everyone understands the utter devastation left after what our Wall Street robber barons stole.

I really can't name a favorite part as so much of it had little bits of truth sprinkled in but maybe it was the advice given to the bride about liking your husband.

As for the critics, I think they take themselves too seriously. This isn't great cinema, it's a light adventurous romp taking a poke at the not quite older generation. It's a vicarious way to get revenge on the take-over billionaires while Pierce Bronson and Emma Thompson make us smile.
