Why is it so poorly rated?

I loved this film thought it was superb. Brilliant British Film.

Probably because overall it was just a bit of light fluff. If people go in with their serious heads on then they'll think it's stupid because it was only meant to be a bit of light fluff.

"God, when I meet you, I'm gonna be pretty. If it's the last thing I do. I'll be a beautiful angel."

I have no problem with a light bit of fluff, but this was utterly dreadful. Abysmal plot, that had more holes than a Tea-bag, abysmal script and abysmal chemistry between the two lead actors. I wanted to switch it off after the car chase scene, but my wife wanted to keep watching. I didn't think it could get much worse than the car chase scene, but I was very wrong. I'm generally very forgiving with movie plots and plot holes, but this movie was a step too far.

I agree, fluff can be fun. This was awful. I normally like both leads. It was simply a terrible movie.

reply

Maybe because it looked as though the script was being written as it was filmed?

reply

Because it's pants.

i would say it's average rating (i.e. 5.8/10) is about right as i thought it was decent enough to see once but not a movie ill care to see again. i did have a little laugh here and there though.

6/10 (Thumbs Down)

p.s. personally i preferred the other Brosnan movie this year called 'A Long Way Down' more as i gave that a 6.5-7/10 (a mild Thumbs Up). although i imagine ill probably like his The November Man the most overall as it's going to be nice to see Brosnan back in action which we have not seen in about 10 years now.

It's just not very good.
Poorly written and directed and a bit amateur.

Two laughs are the watch synchronising scene (Tim Spall) and the gun scene mentioned in the trivia section.

Actors probably saw the script and liked '6 weeks in France expenses paid'.

I am relieved to see that not ALL of the horrible movies of 2014 are coming out of the U.S.A. There are some awful ones coming out of Europe, Australia and Canada too. Let's face it, it's a terrible year for film.

the venality, a feel of arrogance, i guess, wanted to like it, couldn't

My wife and I watched this last night with a bottle of wine and thoroughly enjoyed it as a light-hearted, no-brainer comedy. It's no classic but there are some laughable moments and with great actors like Pearce Brosnan and Emma Thompson it's worth a watch.

reply

It was fluff and it was bad fluff at that. No funny jokes, predictable plot, very bad script...

There are good heist comedies (even starred by Brosnan) and romantic comedies out there. This just wasn't one of them.
